waAt A J jSSSh THE HERALD Wednesday May 19pgeis Chippendales wooed the women By DIAHANN Herald Special They are hot very hot My brothers laves in A and I come from Florida I know what hot is and they re HOT Hot was the word most of the women at Club used to describe the men of Chippendales The men performed for two sold out nights last week and women came from as far away as Picker ing to catch the show A Chippendales evening is an ex cursion into mass hysteria a perfectly choreographed tease to make the audience respond on cue The announcer whips the women into a frenzy aided by the lewd grins and lascivious moves of the dancers The evening began with six men coming out on stage dressed in white pants and shirts and signing calendars and t shirts that were sold in the lobby Some fellows were brand new additions others had graced Chjppendales calen dar several times Most of them were from California The show opened with the men coming out on stage a few at a time lip syncing very badly to some terrible music and dancing not very well to some unimaginative choreography But the audience was so eager to see some flesh that these flaws went unnoticed by most Only some cynical reviewer would look for problems right Some numbers featured several men on stage others a solo striptease Most of the time the music was horrible generic dance tunes with only the occasional rock and roll piece thrown in One de cent song was Bob Seger Give Me That Old Time Rock and Roll danced by three guys in shirts underwear and socks a la Tom Cruise in Risky Business The men never took everything off a G string was always there but their were generally exposed and screamed over The crowed ranged from just turned to women in their 60s Everyone was wildly enthusiastic out to have a good time and clearly succeeding Birthday girls about tobewed brides soon tobe moms were all there Some groups had brought their tickets more than a month ahead others had been for lunate and bought some that day We only found out about the show today explained one happy birth day celebrant While gentlemen prefer blondes it seems that women want their men tall dark and handsome On ly one blonde was on stage the others were all dark and looked so similar that it was difficult to tell them apart With all the teased hair it was hard to say whether there was more stage or in the then no one expects Chippendales to be purveyors of the natural look anymore than you d expect them to be doing doctorates in their spare time Don t forget tonight day is your chance to buy a bachelor and support Open Door at Club Doors open at m show starts at 00 Steve of Yuk Yuks and Liberty Sliver will be performing Invaders shouldnt bother By DIAHANN NADfcAU Herald Special This movie is so dumb it really isn t worth the space of a review This is not a Martian Tremors although it could have been In stead of satirizing a genre that cnes out for it Spaced Invaders simply to make a comedy out of a well worn formula un the movie is not very funny nor is it stupid enough to be inadvertently hilarious Still the very young will enjoy it the men tal age of this film is about six Douglas Ban- plays the new sheriff of Big Bean Illinois He is a widower with one very pretty daughter Richards She is not crazy about her new town it seems to be pretty slow nothing ever happens But on Halloween a group of not toobright Martians pick up the rebroadcast of War of the Worlds and shoot down to earth to help out the rest of the fleet They set out to conquer the planet but they can t even get Big Bean citizens to notice them It is Hallo ween after all and they are short They just look like they re wearing particularly clever ugly costumes The silliest thing about this movie is someone bright ides to give the creatures voices of such famous actors as Jack Nicholson and Cary Grant The Nicholson voice has a Nicholson character to match cool ironic the only clever one there Cary Grant is there in voice only and even then the actor can keep up the imitation the ac cent drops in and out a ridiculous ly obvious flaw that should never have made it to the screen But MAKE ANY OCCASION SPECIAL hard to catch them all The movie does have some good points the sheriff his daughter and Brian a kid dressed as a duck J J Anderson are all likeable and real However everyone else seems to be imitating some other actor just like the Martians It is irritating and inexplicable There is not much point in seeing this movie without taking a child it s simply too tedious and unimaginative to be
