Plgell Saturday June UN Sports Outlook COLIN GIBSON Herald Sports Editor Veterans anchor Falcons line up this season The season has started with a lot of new faces trying out Some old players returning and former juniors making up a squad of twentyone players Three well known players returning to Georgetown are Howie Oram Terry Dixon an Ben Beckett all qaulity players and should be a big help to the younger players Due to a lack of response from a major sponsor Barnes wrote 30 to letters for sponsorship and received nothing we went to see an old soccer lover who said he would try and raise some money for us and he did exactly that to the tune of This helped us by only having to charge the guys only The price of their registration form The Falcons would like to public ly thank these people Cianfarani of TRA Enterprises Mario Rosset of Georgetown Custom Homes Pio of Plus Welding Bob Souliere Ed Ortilla and Garcia The season opened May at field at Falcons played Mississauga Due to registration problems the Falcons were unable to dress Howie Oram and Terry Dixon Despite this they had a fairly ex team on the field cap tained by Tim another returning player of quality Without having had any games prior to this the Falcons looked a bit unorganized at first against a young and quick Mississauga team though lacking in skill up for it with desire and speed The first half was uneventful really and was obvious ly the first game for both teams In the second half the Falcons settled down and played some good soccer but lacked the finishing touch The signs were there though that the club can play some good soccer and will develop into a good team Mississauga did net the ball but it was called off side Coach George Barnes was pleased with the play of the new players Dave Scida and Simon Golding two young players with speed All in all not a bad show but we have to shoot more often The game ended in a draw A fair result overall and with a bit of luck could have been two points There s lots of work to do in practise Sunday May Falcons vs Norval Croatia Terry Dixon s registration final ly came through and was able to play plus two players from last season have a reputation of rough and aggressive play and not always within the rules so discipline was the name of the game The Falcons did exactly that and played well in all depart ments a goal in both halves The first came from good work by Stu Baines taking the ball off two players and a curling shot with the outside of the foot and came back off the crossbar shot from an acute angle it came back into the goal area and was driven home by Derek Oram who has played two good games at The second goal was scored from a penalty shot shot by Terry on who had been pulled down A good solid win a total team effort and bears good for the upcoming season were a tired team at the end and thoroughly beaten The final score was Falcons 2 Nor valO Over the top Stables in Halton Hills held a horse trial
