nonprofit hous ing development in the Cook Street and Victoria Avenue area of Acton did nothing to appease neighboring residents opposition to the development The decision is based on dollars to the town and the issue of fordable housing instead of the im pact of the development will have on the eight residents of Cook Street complained Acton resident Richard Vanderwall on behalf of the Cook Street residents The general committee which is comprised of the town councillors heard from several of the other neighboring residents who showed up at the meeting to oppose the Cobble Homes Development The proposal calls for townhoases and 22 apartments The recommendation will go before council for final approval Monday Residents expressed concern that they would be denied privacy when the development is built I have seven houses abutting my property said Cook Street resident Debbie Lindsay And this even exist in Toron to But the developer architect Wilfred argued the development would be lowered by one to two metres than when the proposal was considered at a public hearing two months ago As well the development will be sur rounded by different types of plants and shrubs the architect told the audience Mr predicted the houses will barely be seen Mr Lindsay argued there is no fence high enough or amount of shrubs that will maintain my privacy But Acton councillor Norm Elliott commended the developer on making a large number of changes to the proposal since the public hearing He called the proposed landscap ing exemplary I would to say most profit housing would not have that kind of land scaping built into it I can t think of another project in which the developers have tried as hard to accommodate the neighbors said Coun Elliott Residents also complained that there will never be enough parking to accommodate the influx of cars The Cook Street residents predicted that at peak hours cars will be parked on both sides of the street forcing drivers travelling up and down Cook Street to stop for one another to let each other pass But the town planning depart wrote its report that it t expect parking problems in the area According to a report and the ar chitect each dwelling will have 1 5 parking spaces That s more than the required 1 25 parking spaces In answer to a question by Acton Coun Gerald the developer said that the residences will be occupied by Halton Hills residents The occupants will represent a mixture of people from upper mid die class to lower income families and from single mothers to seniors and the handicapped explained
