acclaimed as a member of the Ex Committee of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association at the organization annual meeting held Saturday in Toronto at the Royal York Hotel Pries joins other acclaimed members of the committee Ed Grimshaw of Stouffville replaces outgoing OMHA president Jun Pollard of London Pries a member of the Georgetown Minor Hockey Association since 1976 has spent the past three seasons as an OMHA Convenor for the Tn County Hockey League Harrison Division and House League carding He is presently the man in charge of the Halton Hurricanes the AAA Zone hockey program which will involve players from Novice through Juvenile in a recently initiated program which will allow players regardless of their residence status the opportunity to play the game at the highest level possible The AAA Zone Hur ricanes will provide this ty to young hockey players from Georgetown Acton Erin Flam Milton and Orangeville The OMHA AAA Zone project was initiated last year when four elite zone organizations were created out of 29 hockey com muni ties The other two zones involve com around the Belleville area and communities around the area Pnes is currently a member of the Georgetown Hockey Heritage Council has managed the Sunny Acre Farms major midget hockey team for the past two seasons and also has been involved with Georgetown senior and junior hockey teams It was noted at the 57th annual OMHA meeting that the number of players registered in minor hockey has shrunk from a high of 751 in 197677 to just 86 528 last season This did however repre sent a small increase from the previous season The took in a total of last season but this included a transfer of the Maintenance Fund thus all for a surplus Outgoing president Pollard vised those in attendance tha OMHA will Leworthy s feelings these days The 14 year old from Milton wasn greatly impressed with his performance at the Metro Toronto Wheelchair Challenge this past weekend He said poor weather conditions on Saturday may have been partly to blame I was expecting to do a lot bet said Leworthy whose record included a first place finish in the male junior m paraplegic race at a time of is seconds Unfortunately for Leworthy the weekend event also saw second place finished in the m and 500 races and a third place posting in the loo event said he is convinced the wet track at the Etobicoke Centennial Stadium on Saturday may have hurt his performance I hate to make a lot of excuses up he said But that what I think it is Leworthy who has has seen better A regional meet in Milton for example saw him place first in all events Leworthy has been competing for more than three years and said Saturday the challenge is getting tougher More athletes are par ticipating he said and many have improved greatly over the years Admitting he is very com petitive himself said he is up to the challenge Leworthy also plays wheelchair basketball but said he prefers track He said he enjoys the in dividual attention an athlete receives in track events You can t blame it on anv other person if you screw up His track meets have taken him to areas such as Ottawa and Corn wall and he Is aiming
