tune for people to be outdoors enjoying themselves in the open air What I enjoy doing the most while outside is getting m volved in a game of some kind like many other people Ive just moved to Georgetown but I have heard many good things about what the town has to offer in the way of sports especially in the To start theres baseball of all different levels from tyke house league and ladies soft ball to soccer swimming and lacrosse Im sure that I missed more than a few of the sports that are every day or so in this ea which is one of the reasons written this column st of all I m the new sports nor for the Herald and an in column is a quicker to you know Im here rather jn phone all of you and get busy ynals or no answer or miss a few minutes you get Iheiddt say hello Mind you I am very interested in talking you whether its on the phone or in person If you have store results from a game whether it be house league or a rep team junior or senior Id be terested in hearing from you just the same Scores arent the only thing that Im looking for either If you know of someone who has won an award or has accomplished something that might be noteworthy let me know This is a community newspaper thats interested in what the people in this area are doing and wants to let everyone know about it However it s like I stated earlier I can t know everything that goes on without some help from the people who are more directly involved in each of these sports Now I know that most of you comfortable with writing out a story on what a particular player or team did That not what I after at least from most of you What would be appreciated is a call every few weeks to let me know about something that has gotten your attention so that I can check into it and hopefully use it for the paper You could call it a sports tip system I can t be aware of everything but if I were called up chances are good Id be able to get out and cover whatever event was mentioned However I am even more in terested in talking to the coaches and managers out there since theyre the ones who have those game sheets that sports editors love so much You d be surprised what sports writers can do with just one small game summary of whatever sport and a quick telephone call the person in charge In other words don worry if you ve never written anything longer than a grocery list Just send me a game sheet and a phone number and I II make you sound like an old pro I plan on making the rounds over the next few weeks so I hope to meet many of the great people who have volunteered their time to help make the Georgetown sports com such an active one In the meantime if anything m teresting comes along or if you d just like to say hello please don t hesitate to call me at the office at By COLIN GIBSON the
