will mean no play for that week ACTON MINOR LACROSSE Rams split series to earn 74 record Herald Special There is a new face in the crowd of Hills hockey today The new triple A minor hockey alliance is starting its first season bringing an even higher level of play to the area With any new organization start up costs are a fact of life and must be dealt with accordingly Costs in elude equipment administration and to a much larger extent ice rentals Under equipment are sweaters socks helmets pants first aid kits water bottles equip ment bags pucks pylons etc and under administration are ing insurance lawyer envelopes paper telephone and league fees referees etc Sponsors and grants when available will offset a small percentage of these costs Com munity support both business and private individuals in the form of donations will be required to in sure a successful inaugural year Letters have been mailed out to the business community of the seven centers that make up the Zone for the new Halton AAA Minor Hockey Alliance The towns are Acton Erin Flamborough Georgetown Hillsburgh Milton and Orangeville Halton Hurricanes have ed sponsorship from Milton Pro Sports and Skate Exchange who will be the Minor Bantam sponsor and Greenpark who will be the Ma jor Bantam sponsor Two other businesses from the communities have expressed a real interest in sponsoring teams in the initial at the highest level of minor hockey available in Ontario The Hurricanes will offer AAA hockey at 11 different age groups years old which are minor novice to 1819 year olds which are juveniles Players wishing to try out for the different age categories must first register with their local associa before attending any tryouts The price of each tryout will be 00 per participant per session with tryout sessions assigned per team The tryout dates commence on August 18 running on consecutive days to September 2 Community arenas to be used for the are Arena in Georgetown Carlisle Arena in and Thompson Road Arena in Milton Individual team tryout dates and times will be available to the communities an upcoming news release Coaching interviews have all but been completed and the coaches and Kitchener on July and were shell ed heavily losing I The home side were in the game early having scored what would be their only goal in the first period and trailed only 1 heading into the second frame The lone goal was scored by Mike Krause who was set up by Chris Lee and Scott Monaghan Kitchener came on strong in the next two penHs scoring four in the second five in the third to hand the Rams their fourth loss of the season Two days later the Rams turned things around against the Orangeville team beating them Richard Raju shone again m this game as he has most of the season sconng three goals one of which was the eventual match win He also opened the sconng for his team when he took a pass from teammate Sandy Chapman and drilled it past the Orangeville goalie After Mike Krause scored Kyle Artem scored the first of his two goals with just seconds left in the first to make the score 31 didn get any goals in the second penod but Raju got his second one unassisted and Paul Withers followed with a single at 13 giving his squad a lead Orangeville got two goals back In the third period but so did Ram players and which made the final 73 Ram coach George Artem said the playoffs are due to start the first week of August but t sure who his team is due to play Tykes lose two in tough week The Acton Tyke lacrosse team had another pair of tough tames last week being 274 In the first game against on July the visiting Acton team were overpowered 124 with half of those goals being scored by Elora s GregJacina Acton scored three times in the second period on goals from Ryan Jason and Brandon Volenti but were only able to get one more from Weatherall before the game ended The next day saw Acton at home against Orangeville but the familiar surroundings did nothing to help then- scoring as they lost Jason M McGuire gave a valiant effort in net as did Chelsea Young in the first game but the side was too much for the Acton defenders In lacrosse house league action
