Page 24 TOE HERALD Wedoeiday August Bantam Softball Quick exit for Hoosiers at regional tournament The Firestone Halton Hills made a quick exit from the AllOntario Regional Touma ment held in Mississauga Firestone lost their first two games to be eliminated from the double knockout tournament Although the competition was stronger than previous years this was the teams poorest show in the three years it has par ticipated The tone was set with the first batter of their first game with Niagara Falls A routine grounder was booted around to the tune of three errors on one play allowing the Niagara Falls player to score By the time the 1st inning was over the Falls had scored unearned runs on seven errors and no hits After this disastrous beginning Firestone settled down They got one run back in the second inning Kelly Ambrose reached base on an error and subsequently scored on Peacocks Niagara Falls rallied again in the fifth to score three runs two of them earned The rally was cut short when a Falls runner tried to score on a wild pitch Catcher Shannon Morns made a good throw to Ambrose who applied the tag in a close play at home Hoosiers scored one run in the top of the sixth Morris gained base on a fielders choice and was later cashed by Tammy Richard s long double Final score 82 Morris took the loss allowing no earned runs no hits and three walks over three innings COMMUNITY striking out one Richard tossed three innings of onehit three- strikeout ball also allowing no earned runs and walking three Ambrose supplied an inning of relief The Niagara Falls pitcher limited the Hoosiers to two hits Firestones second game was against league rival Cawthra Pan thers Firestone fell behind after four innings Firestone got one run in the sixth Ambrose singled and was scored on Peacock s double After Cawthra tallied one of their own in the bottom of the inning got one more in the top of the seventh Natalie Cameron worked a walk and Amy Korzack was sent as a pinch runner One out later Morns hit a tower mg triple over the fielders head to cash the run Final score Peacock was the defensive star for Firestone spearing a liner in the 1st and a couple of hot grounders in the fifth Catcher An Leeking played her usual strong game and threw out a run ner trying for second in the fourth Again Morris took the loss allowing two earned runs on four hits and four walks over four inn ings Richard provided two innings of middle relief allowing one earn ed run on one hit and three walks and striking out three The Cawthra pitcher scattered seven hits Firestone
