RECREATION REPORT Summer winding down with variety performance Well the summer is beginning to wind down The Hal ton Hills Recreation and Parks Department tamps have had a wonderful fun filled summer Looking back over the last two months brings back pleasant memories of great times Staff Training started it all with all the leaders and supervisors get ting FIRE d up and sharpening their leadership skills Training was an exciting and enlightening three days Then on July 3rd camps began This was the moment we had all been preparing for Tot Lot Camp and Summer Activity Cen tres had a full summer to took for ward to Sports Camp and Theatre Camp were underway and Athletic Adventures and Studio Art Camp were in the making The Leadership Development pro grams had begun and were filled to capacity in all three locations Outdoor Adventures a camp strictly for teens is also filled and is scheduled to keep teens thrilled with windsurfing camping and a to Sportsworld One of the highlights of the sum mer was the Acton Carnival which took place July 18th at the Acton Community Centre Carnival was a superb success Many generous donations from local businesses provided us with prizes for the booths which were developed by all our camps There was also a magician and an opening ceremony during which some camp participants released helium balloons These balloons had a message inside and we have begun to hear responses from peo ple who have found the balloons from as far away as New York State In all Carnival had double the participants of last year and was a very exciting event Musical Theatre Camp was a new addition to our programs this year The participants worked together with song dance and theatre specialists to create a fabulous swashbuckling musical of the South Seas Atten dance at the production was very good and the program was such a hit it is sure to be a favorite for years to come As an event to end our summer on a high note the Hills Recreation and Parks Department will be holding Vanety Night on August at the John Elliott Theatre This is an entertaining production put on by members of each individual camp The theme is When I Grow Up I Wanna Be and the camps are to develope a skit portravmg what they hope to be in the vear 2020 It is shaping up to be a fun and en able end to a fun and summer The Halton Hills Recreation and Parks Department is sincerely grateful for all the support and assistance we have received from the Halton Hills Man local businesses made generous donations to our summer pro grams which have helped our camps and Special Events be unique and exciting all summer long We would also like to extend thanks to all of our camp par You know who vou are These are the people who make our camps so special and successful In closing w e are ending the summer on a very positive note with many happy campers leaders and supervisors Have a great school year and we hope to see everyone back next summer Mariners in division way ahead of the rest points in front of fellow qualifiers Victoria with Winnipeg in third place Steelers have con ceded 30 goals so far and this alone will make it hard for them to reach their third consecutive final Georgetowns Falcons had a pie of heartbreakers recently ing by 1 2 and 2 3 The 3 loss was to league leading Classic and the winning goal came v ith only three minutes to go following a defensive lapse The team has still had a good season and there is a little to go yet Well Manners effort to escape relegation came to an end with poor defense against Meteor 35 reflects the play
