THE HERALD Wednesday September 12 1SMPagel9 Jim Dandies wrapup dandy season By BETTY It was a full weekend of baseball for the Jim Dandies as they com peted in the roundrobin playoffs for their league The ladies began with win against the Marauders on Friday night This game was controlled by the Jim Dandies pitchers Sandra and Marion Lumbers were both shooting hard strikes time and time again Lumbers won the MVP for this game The Dandies met again on Satur day at am to face Remax Here was a real tense game as each team fought to win In the end it was Ballinafad that came through with a 76 win Carol Ann See was most notable as she belted out hits and scrambled for those balls that denied being caught also noted her spectacular playing by voting her MVP of the game The next game against Double Trouble was one of the fiercest games ever played by the Dandies The girls were losing right up until their last bat in the 7th inning by It was Double Troubles pit cher that held the Dandies back with her wicked curve ball and lightning speed It was at their last chance to bat when the Dan dies came through to bring in four runs Then it was a matter defen ding their lead which they did through spirits like Vera Longstreet that ran up from deep field to grab a fly ball that was virtually caught at a level between her ankles and her toes next it was Carol Ann See that backed up into the right field from her position at second base to get the second fly out Sandra Prouse got the last out with a toss to first II was Vera Longstreet that was voted MVP for this game This brought the Dandies up to the final championship game against the Panthers After a slow start the ladies managed to get a lead Both teams were determined to win and it showed in their play ing as very few errors were made Sharon Marshall made a fantastic play getting two outs herself by catching a ball at her knees and with the momentum needed to make the catch ran on to touch shortstop position The Panthers voted Marion Lumbers MVP All of the Jim Dandies played Ballinafad News marvelous Kathleen Topolsek made a number of remarkable running catches It was Kathleen that clinched the win against the Panthers when she caught a ball that few deep into center field Cin dy See and Cindy were in top form as they caught all that came to them and were very strong in their hitting for all four games played The Jim Dandies could not have become champions without the constant support and lessons taught by coach Jim Bailey His dedication to the team is outshone only by the respect and love the girls have for him Throughout the year Ken Woods was a constant aid to Jim helping on the bases and hitting flies out for practices John Molody was another individual whose help was immeasurable when he was able to come out to help as first base coach and help in practices The Jim Dandies celebrated their vic tory with a team party as Marion Lumbers This weekend brings to a close the baseball season for the Jim Dandies With a lot of help from some wonderful folks the Corn Roast was most enjoyable Paul Metcalfe manned the corn pots while Carl Volmar had the cooked just right Bruno Carnelos did a
