THE HERALD OUTLOOK Saturday September Z9 1990 Page Letters to the Editor Citizens group takes legal action against PM Dear Editor As you are aware by now IRATE citizens of Peter borough has decided to take legal action against the Prime Minister and the government of Canada What started out as a protest against unfair taxation GST has now become a fight for the very survival of Canada as a democratic nation When we as Canadians elect a person to serve as Prime Minister this is the highest honour we can bestow upon another Canadian and it is an honour not to be taken lightly and as such that person not only under takes to serve the people but pro honour and respect the rights of the people and the laws of this nation The four corner stones of every civilized nation are democracy justice fair taxation and government We have none of the above in this country today What have is dictatorship corruption litsanddeceit The Canadian people deserve better than this There are in Canada today four teen add a half million people out of a voting population of just under eighteen million who are against the G IRATE is in pro cess of sending millions of signatures to the Senate asking Student claims injustice over bus ride fares Dear Editor As a bus student at the Georgetown District High School I have become quite concerned with the fee pay to ride the bus to school Jt was only four years ago that I paid forty cents Since then the price increased to fifty cents to seventy five cents and finally to one dollar per trip That ten dollars a week and that s a fair amount of money to a student who is not working in order to get higher grades for university I guess that these are the conse that I have to pay for be on a town bus It might be more acceptable if the fee had been raised in order for the bus drivers to get a higher salary but I understand that that hasn I changed of late It also necessary to note that the GO bus from Georgetown to Brampton is 30 This is al least four times the length in com to the town bus ride to school and it only JO more Does this make sense To raise another question where is the money going Another thing that I don t understand is the fact that some of the kids in Glen Williams who arc closer to school than I am don t have to pay for their rides Of course their buses are paid for by taxes our taxes too As I live on the south west side of George Kennedy Public School I really have no other choice than to take the bus It takes me forty five minutes to walk to school and that long walk All I really want to say is thai I think that one dollar each trip is a bit too much It seems to me that weve had quite a few petitions about this student injustice but I think we re being ignored Shouldn t this concern us Shouldn it also concern our parents Sincerely C Baker Georgetown Goose Bay reunion planned for 1991 Dear Editor Since 1941 hundreds of thousands of military and civilian personnel have lived for a time in Goose
