Review Study i a d The town General Committee composed of the town councillors recommended Monday council support the resolution Halton Hills Mayor Miller said Monday that council would be doing the town on injustice if it approved a lot of development before the study was completed The study will include the designation of a 10year supply of residential land the streamlining of the development process the encouragement of a range of hous ing types including a minimum of 25 per cent affordable housing the creation of new housing stock through res dential housing areas and the establishment of a monitoring program to maintain a current assessment of the local housing market The towns Deputy Planning rector Bruce MacLean told the committee the plan will be com pleted in about a year But com members seems to agree that the implementation of the studv recommendations could take longer if council has to amend its Official Plan to achieve these recommendations Acton Councillor Norm Elliot ex pressed the most concern over the resolution and specifically the use of the word implementation It concerns me some large scale development proposed for Acton could be put on hold indefinitely if the resolution is passed in its cur rent form Between now and the Oct 15 council meeting Mr Elliot said he will seek assurances that council will be able to consider future development projects in the town s urban areas even the resolution Mr said that if the resolution is approved council is not prevented from making excep tions to consider development pro posals before the study is com pleted But the more exceptions council makes the less effective the resolution he told the commit tee Mr told the commit tee planning staff used the word implementation the resolution wording to make it as strong as poss in the face of developers challenging the on at the Ontario Municipal Board If council approved the resolu after removing the word im and followed the results of the study to determine the viability of a new development application the town would a less advantageous position if ts decision was challenged at the OMB said Mr The OMB would cpnsider the study to make a
