concerned that if the Region approved the twinning project two dormant landfills in the valley would have to be dug up If the contents were toxic and entered the creek Georgetown s drinking water would be con laminated Mr told commit tee members an investigation of the landfills as well as some other concerns necessitated increased spending In response to a committee members the landfills Mr said the Region the landfills this past Burlington Region Pot asked if istence of the landfill jeopardize consultants preferred route noting it is the cheapest option Mr Robertshaw explained it had been suggested the pipe could be twinned up to the land fills and then built out to Main Sti and around the dumps Regional chairman Peter instructed staff to in form the residents living in the area of the valley that staff need extra funding During the public information meeting residents had asked to be informed of any further report concerning the trunk sewer and that copies of the reports be office for the Georgetown Business Im Area were the two major announcements made Tuesday night the group s annual general meeting at the McGibbon Hotel The general consensus of those approximate 20 business owners who attended the meeting was that the BIA sponsored Pioneer Days this past summer was successful for instance manager Margaret Vint said following the meeting the event was reduced from the normal three days to two days In March Ms Vint sent around worded memo to the membership w if more people volunteer their help the have to be cancel Pioneer t incelled but a lack of response to Vint rtquest meant it had to be reduced to Pioneer Days the biggest event of the year George the of the McGibbon and a member said success next year will require better organization and more help He heads a com mittee that has already started laying the ground work for next year event Plans call for the street festival to be once again three days and the events of each day will centre on one of three themes seniors day family day and children day The overall theme for next year will be Let s Return to the Good Old Days As well there will be the Great Balloon Race from Acton to Georgetown and a big name musical act Mr wants to see between and 1 peo ple on Mam Street for the con cert The BIAs aggressive approach is also reflected in their decision to establish an office to be located on Mill Street announced BIA chairman Liz McNeilly The manager can t be working off then table anymore said the chairman following the meeting The office will open al the start of next year It will be
