Regional Police are seeking in formation in their ongoing fight against drug trafficking Many drug users commit other crimes such as robbery and theft to obtain money to buy illegal drugs Drug transactions often take place in public places such as plazas malls parking lots and street corners and are made without much attempt to hide them from the view of pssers by Other drug dealers visit local schools to peddle their products to students More frequently the drug pushers use their own homes hoping to avoid the atten tion of patrolling police officers In these situations neighbors will notice people visiting at all times of the day but only staying a minute or two to make their il legal purchases If these individuals can be caught it will help reduce the CRIME STOPPERS drug trade and also help eliminate some of the other enmes committed by the same poeple in our communities Do yon know of a drag dealer in your community Call Crime Stoppers of Halton with your in formation water system to service the residents by the end of 1991 or early 1992 even a proposed reservoir for Georgetown isn built by this time Hills Council learned Monday Town councillor Joe Hewitt said last Thursday night at a Glen Williams town hall meeting the reservoir which would be capable of holding up to 1 million gallons of water would have to be built before Glen Williams would receive a water system Region Engineer Vince Suffoletta said Monday the two projects are not connected The Glen Williams water system will be installed as soon as the pro vince provides its share of the necessary funding to finance the project he explained The Region has already allocated its share of the funding said Mr Suffoletta He expressed confidence the province would provide the addi funding telling council the province says it the Glen Williams water system is one of the projects it will fund Mr Suffoletta appeared before council to give an update on the various water and sewer services the Region has proposed for the Georgetown and Acton urban areas In Georgetown these include a water reservoir at Trafalgar Road and Sideroad 22 possible wells on the Tenth Line and in the Silver Creek valley and at Trafalgar Road and Lindsay Court and a trunk sewer running through Silver Creek Valley or along Mam Street Proposals for Acton are the possible expansion of the Acton reservoir and the Prospect Park Water Treatment Plant At the end of the presentation Coun Cook asked why the Region is considering the of the water sewer capacity Georgetown and Acton In ac with the town s Official Plan the Region is responsible for developing new water and sewer systems in the two urban areas The new systems must be put in place if as expected Georgetown population grows to and Acton s to 10 The new systems would also allow Georgetown to service 226 additional hectares of industrial land and Acton to service tares of similarly zoned property Coun Cook said he asked the question because some people in Halton Hills have indicated they oppose more growth To stop the Regions work said Mr Suffolet the town would only have to amend its Official Plan so it t recognize expected popula tion growth in either of the urban areas Pat McCarthy wanted assurance from Mr the wetlands in the Silver Creek Valley wouldnt be damaged because of the trunk sewer and well proposed for valley Mr Suffoletta told the coun cillor final approval for either of the projects wouldnt be given un til it could be proven neither pro ject would damage any part of the valley or Sliver Creek The councillor however wanted to know if the Region was taking into consideration the cumulative impact the projects may have on the valley if both go ahead Mr Suffoletta said Regional staff is now discussing whether the cumulative impact should be considered Under provincial legislation the Region is only re quired to examine each project in isolation Mr Suffoletta went on to ex plain the commenting agencies asked to review these projects such as the province s Ministry of Environment are aware there is concern about the cummulative impact the projects proposed for the valley may have if all are ap proved On the issue of the wells for the Tenth Line and Trafalgar Road and Lindsay Court in Georgetown the engineer said both are expected to be in operation by May or June of next year In Acton Mr Suffoletta said the Prospect Park Water Treat Plant treats 250000 gallons of water per day But it can be ex to accommodate gallais per day if necessary he explained He also said the Acton reser voir may have to be expanded if the Halton Hills Fire Department is permitted to draw more water than is currently done The fire department is still doing tests to determine if it needs more draw down capacity said Mr Suffolet THE HOTEL 79 Main St S Georgetown 8773388 LET US THE GST ROAST BEEF DINNER BAKED HAM WATCH HOCKEY ON OUR LARGE SCREEN TV LIVE Live Music Sat THIS WEEK FEATURING THE WANDERERS
