i Community Wedding anniversary surprise party THE HERALD Wednesday November By KAY WILSON A Complete Surprise Party caught Doug and Marie Mc Callum off guard on their wedding anniversary Formerly of Corner and now of Cameron Ont they thought they were going to a company party in the neighbourhood but were real ly bowled over when they reahz the people were there for their wedding anniversary The evening was planned by the family and was held at the Chris Gibson Recreation Centre Brampton when around relatives friends and neighbours attended The McCallums have been retired now for six years but when in business their door was always open for many com muters with driving problems The Winter Storm some 15 years ago that blocked all roads found around people stranded overnight who drank coffee and soup until Manes cupboards were bare Dancing was enjoyed during the evening as well as a lot of visiting A lovely buffet salad lunch was served by the family Cards were received from Scotland Florida P E I and Saskatchewan and many other local areas extending their best wishes Many family members from the Ritchie and McCallum families attended as did neighbours from their home now at Cameron as well as couples from and Port Elgin Maple Lodge Family members all enjoyed the evening as did the old Town Line Euchre Club still playing cards for years Doug and Marie thanked ail for coming as well as their family for planning the surprise party They introduced their daughter Lynda and husband Wayne of Milton and five sons Ken of Toronto Don and Rose of Brampton Paul and Shirley of R It Georgetown Stephen an Gail of Georgetown and David of R Milton The family finished off the celebrations with brunch out on Sunday morning at the Hengate Inn at Milton Farmer of the Year Region West Institute Meeting Nov Remembrnace was the theme of the Brampton West Womens Institute meeting held at the home of McClure on Tuesday November 6 Before the official opening of the meeting we enjoyed delicious desserts and wished both McKay and Doris Sharpe a happy Doris Sharpe played Club activities By BETTY SOJKA The has completed their session On Monday December 3rd starting at m the club will meet with other Clubs in the district at the Bishop Reding School in Milton Here BallinafadB chapter will have a display depicting all they have learned in this session of bread making The starting time and topic of the next Club has not been determined at this time The C had a special guest join them at their November 20th meeting Bringing along her photographs to aid her descrip tions Jennifer Mitchell gave a most entertaining account of the Erin District High School Choir and Bands trip to Germany The ladies found Miss Mit chells recollections most in teresting and the photos showed of some wonderful places The Devotion was given by Edith Volmar and Linda Mitchell who also provided lunch for the group Plans are in the works to have their December meeting as a visit to a restaurant for dinner Both the Senior and Junior Church choirs are meeting week to practice a selecction of special hymns for Christmas By joining forces with their sister church St Andrew s in Georgetown a wonderful cantata is planned for December At their Tuesday November 20th meeting the Hall Board voted Carl Volmar Into the post tion of Maintenance Coordinator This will end delays of having work done around the Communi Centre If som needs to be addressed it does not have to wait for the Hall Board to meet before it can be dealt with Carl s first job was to see that the locks were changed on a couple of doors that had been broken Mabel came to the meeting and presented the Hail Board with the earnings from the recent Craft and Bake Sale The Hall Board thanked her for her ardious labours Mrs Hoare was quick to acknowledge Marlene Burnett and Katberine French whose collective efforts made the event a rousing success The monies earned will be put with the Business Peoples Dance ear nlngs New tables will be pur chased and old ones recondition ed with the earnings Jim Bailey Ballinafad News also attended this meeting and gave the Board an update on the work going on at the park A gate is to be replaced by the childrens playground to prevent cars from entering the park and some grading has been done on the perimeters of the ball dia mond to smooth out the land ing it easier to retrieve lost balls A large portion of the meeting was taken up with planning the New Years Dance After com paring various menus and prices it was decided to have hot and cold buffet Other items discuss ed were ticket prices bar prices and types of party favours The Hall Board will meet again on Tuesday December Tickets for the New Year Eve Dance are now available at the General Store at a cost of per person There will be a cash bar and DJ George will delight party goers with music complete with his light show The tickets will be sold on a first come basis and there will be no reserving tickets The dance will start at 9 00 m at the Community Centre on December 3lst and party favours are included with admis sion cost A grand door prize of will be drawn during the evening and display by and Margaret long time genealogists who gave a very in and informative cap sule comment on tracing family roots and recording a family history They began their family search with their father in and were able to share many helpful ideas and displays along with our own Tweedsmuir Histories They spoke of the preciousness of ones family name of the stability of children knowing their roots They told of origins of some surnames and of the un fortunate ways some get chang ed They invited us to participate with them in regular meetings of Peel Genealogical Society on the fourth Sunday of most months at Chlnguacousy Library in Volume Two of our local history is nearly full and we have voted funds to continue this valuable work Microfilms of these local histories are available
