THE HERALD Wednesday November 28 1990 Page Expansion of golf club wouldnt hurt business The recent decision by the shareholders of the North Golf and Country Club to turn down a proposal that would allow for expansion of the facility is one that has me puzzled If the reason for not allowing the board of directors to borrow up to million was due to fears about the economy the very nature of the plan should have headed off those concerns Each of the planned changes which ranged from a larger balcony to new locker rooms were designed to be put in one at a time If good borrowing rates couldnt be found the work would be stopped or not started at all until the right numbers could be obtained Stopping the work wouldnt in terfere with the operation of the club and its revenue gathering Just because some changerooms were being expanded doesnt mean all of them would be done at the same time or that the kit chens or the bar heaven forbid would need to be boarded up Having been to the club on many occasions for different functions I t put much value the argument that there is enough room as the building is now The balcony is the best exam pie Any time there is an event in volvmg over people the balcony is far too crowded At times I felt like I was back in Toronto trying to edge my way through the subway during rush NORTH END NISSAN 610MARTINST MILTON T HALTON HILLS COLLISION RR ear as they walk by The locker rooms are another area that is truly in need of more space Ive heard from several members that its difficult to get changed without bumping into so meone especially on the weekends Having been a pool manager I know how crowded can be but since North is a club youd think that its members could enjoy a little more space when they re trying to don those polo shirts If some of the shareholders were more people being added to the membership they should have talked to some of the board members The renovations were to improve the facility for the users new ones With over members now club president Eric Ross said there are already more than enough people and there were no plans to take on any extra The club has a beautiful course that is kept in great shape Its facilities are adequate but as with all things the building is ing and needs to be improved in order to maintain its high dards Club members should be able to bring guests to show their club off proudly instead of feeling they need to make excuses for its faults Atoms down Orangeville 54 By DAVE BEAVAN Herald Special On Nov 18 Star Fuels Major Atoms hosted and played their best game of the
