wife or a composer was really a calculating shrew The answers to this and other questions were not easy to obtain since the people involved have Celebrating Mozart As 1891 marks the of Mozart s death it seemed an appropriate time for Little Theatre to stage by the acknowledged playwright Peter Shaffer The play highlights the arrival of Mozart in the Vienna of 1781 and traces his subsequent at tempts to gain recognition in the Court of Joseph the Second of Austria All of his efforts are foil ed by the jealousy of Court Com poser Salieri and to this day some people believe Salieri was the cause of Mozart s relatively early death This mystery is the nucleus of the play which dramatizes tain events over a span of thirty two years The audience will be transported by the music of Mozart which threads it s way throughout the play whilst a cast of over thirty people sport an assortment of lavish costumes All in contjast to the occasional coarse language of the period which Mozart assumes is a spinetingling night of theatre spectacle music mystery and madness which will keep the audience on the edge of their seats Did Salieri do it what do you think Opening night is Jan and the play will continue February and resident Jason Ould is playing the role of Mozart in Bramalea Little Theatre s immi production of by Peter Shaffer Jason most recently played Christ in Jesus Christ Super Star He approaches all of his roles with great enthusiasm to such a degree that before em barking upon his present role Jason spent a week in Vienna bewigged and dressed in the style of He visited buildings and sauntered the streets much as Mozart would have done upon his arrival at the Court of Joseph the Second Jason arrived back for rehear sals filled with impressions he is now transposing into a Mozart who is child like sometimes vulgar bursting with a supreme talent for wondrous music Bramalea audiences favorite Glen Tarhn is bringing Mozart s bitter enemy Salien into grim and terrifying life Glen has to run the gamut of a lifespan turn ing from aged madman into suc cessful young Court Composer at the drop of a wig The weight of this play rests squarely upon Glen shoulders His many years of experience in a multitude of roles culminate in this supreme test Even now in rehearsal as the fantatical he succeeds in filling a cast of thirty people with fascinated alarm and dismay History asks did Salieri callously manipulate Mozart into destruc and death An intriguing evening of theatre incorporating music laughter shock and hor ror will have audiences asking
