about our planet each of us must work at getting solid information so that we can make informed choices We must always check the sources of information to see whether there Is a conflict of in terest In earlier volumes I have recommended books that would help in your environmental education Today I want to tell you about a conference called Earth Whispers Are We Listen tag The Peel Outdoor Education and Environmental Educator s Association is sponsoring this all day event on Friday Feb at Secondary School 6700 Edenwood Drive in Mississauga This is a P D day for Peel teachers The booklet says This con ference will meet the needs of elementary and secondary teachers administrators trustees custodial staff office staff students and according to conference coordinator Martha the Limited of Milton with discharging a material namely fruit juice and causing a disturbing odor The charges allege that between July and 1989 the company put fruit unfit for sale into waste bins which were positioned to empty into a catch basin This catch basin discharged off land adjacent to residential property on which the fruit fermented It s juice caused an odor The company was charged with two counts under sections and 162 of the Ontario Water Resources Act which relate to permitting the discharge of a material which could impair water quality and fail ing to notify the ministry The company has also been charged with two counts under sections and 141 of the Environmental Protection Act which relate to discharging a contaminant into the environment that causes or is like to cause Environmental Issues and Promoting En Issues through Children s Literature How Your Green Vocabulary and Infusing Environmental Across the Curriculum are a sample of the secondary panel workshops There are cross panel workshops with one for grades 10 titled Breaking Out En vironmental Field Trips Rita Landry and Chris of POWER will head a workshop called Action For Our Environment Organizing a Lob by Group in the afternoon Again in the afternoon Diane Van de Valk will be the workshop leader for Wastewise A Low Tech Community Based Project to Reduce Waste There is even a closed workshop for
