THE HERALD Wednesday February 13 Community- Bill Laidlaw awarded Master Breeder Shield By KAY WILSON Congratulations to BUI 2 Norval on being awarded the Master Breeders Shield by Canada Bill is the 12th farmer In Halton County to receive the coveted award He will receive the award at the Na tional Holstein Convention at Kingston in April The Laidlaws Bill and Gwen were married in 1952 and started their own dairy farm on Winston Churchill south of with Holsteins given them by Bills parents Norman and Kate Laidlaw Bill has been a former director of the Holstein Club and the Milk Com mittee Bill credits his family for help ing him realize this dream Bills wife Gwen his son Paul and his wife Jean and daughters Beth and Carol Anne However Bill and Gwen both say their son Paul was the driving force and kept us going The Laidlaws Holstein herd of points is made up of four ex cellent cows 27 very good and three brood cows well above the points required to win the award Special mention should be given Halton County Breeder Barbara Ford 1 Hornby who is the only woman in Canada to receive this coveted award Special certificate Harold 2 Brampton will receive a cer tificate at the Ontario Holstein Branch meeting in Kitchener in February and a Master Breeders Shield at the National Holstein Convention in Kingston in April for achieving a Master Breeders status in recognition of his Clureholm Holstein Herd A total of points are made up from three excellent cows very good and five Star Brood Cows The first animal in this herd was bought from Harold Cleave News of Georgetown Twelve genera tions from this cow are still in the herd today His son Robert has been very influential in helping his father achieve this honor Get well wishes Get well wishes to Claude and Mary Deenik reak a letter from thanking us for a contribution we sent to them Fundraising ideas discussed By BETTY SOJKA A number of fundraising ideas were discussed at last weeks Hall Board meeting While some ideas were put off for further discussion at the next meeting it was decided to hold another baseball tournament in June with a dance accompanying it The goal for the 1991 Hall Board is to fix up the original part of the basement so that it may once again be rented out This will be a major expenditure The water that seeps in must be stopped and then the walls and floor have to be refurbished The kitchen will have to be outfitted As this is the only section of the community centre that is not in use it is important that this work be completed so that rental in- Ballinafad News come can be earned The Hall Board will meet again on Mon day February starting at pm at the community cen tre Last Sundays activities at the United Church started out with a Pancake Breakfast at 10 am The young
