Community Lions Club celebrates 60 years of service THE HERALD Wednesday February 13 1991 Page The Lions Club of Georgetown this past weekend celebrated years of service to their com with a gala dinner at the Acton Legion Over 142 Lions and friends of Liona were on hand to help celebrate this milestone Plaques and letters were read from all levels of government Al Cook presented a plaque from the Town of Hills Marily Ser made a presentation on behalf of the Region Noel Duignan made a presentation on behalf of Premier Bob Rae and the Province of Ontario and a special letter of recognition was presented by Garth Turner on behalf of the Prime Minister of Canada Past International Director Bruce Murray gave greetings from Lions International and presented President Derek with a special plaque commemorating the occasion Guests at the Anniversary din ner were presented with a special club pin in commemoration of the Anniversary Cycle of Part of the evening festivities was the retiring of the Georgetown Lions Club banner of 60 years by Allison Past President from and it was replaced with a new banner by current President Derek Ezekiel The evening however was extra special for two long time Lions Lion Dan Boyle and Lion Fred Zorge both with over 33 years of service to Lionism and to their communities Lion Dan Boyle was presented with a Life Membership in Lions International Dan has been in Lions for over 34 years and was the Georgetown Club President and rose in to become the District Govenor of Lions District A 11 He also was a member of the Govenors Council which directs activities in Ontario Quebec Labrador and the French Islands of St Pierre and Micquelon Lion Dan was taken completely by surprise as he was the Chair man for the Anniversary Dinner but knew nothing of the Life Membership plans for the evening Lion Fred Zorge the other sur prised guest for the evening received the Melvin Jones Fellowship which is the highest award in Lionism Fred had been a member of the Georgetown club since 1958 and has had 31 years of perfect attendance Lion Fred has been involved in four club committees elected in 1971 to District All and in 1982 his club presented him with his Life membership and in he received the International President Award the second highest honor in Lionism The evening was to celebrate not only the 60th Anniversary of the Georgetown Lions Club but was also to recognize two very active and dedicated members of the Georgetown Lions Club The Georgetown Lions Club Anniversary was extra special for two members who received tlon for long service to the Georgetown Club Dan Boyle was presented with a Life membership to the Georgetown Club and Fred Zorge who has been In Lions over years received the Jones Fellowship one of the highest honors in Pic tured left to right with Rita Boyle and Dan Boyle is far right Fred and Rita Zorge on hand for the presentation was a Past International Director of Lions Mr Bruce Murray from St Mary Ontario Herald photo Pancake breakfast resident Betty Cox helps out her daughter 19 months her pancakes a special United Church sponsored breakfast at church Sunday morning before the service Herald photo Past International Director Bruce Murray left presents Lions Club President Derek Etekiel with the commemorative certificate from Lions Club International In the background is the Lions Club new banner unveiled at the 60th Anniversary Herald photo THE CORPORATION OF THE Town of Hills Hills Drive P O Box HALTON HILLS Georgetown Onlar L7G NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING Ward 2Trafalgar RdStewarttown Rd Council for the Town of Halton Hills will conduct a Public Mealing to and discuss a proposed amendment to Zoning Bylaw and Amending By law 87 to permit habitable accessory buildings decks pools and fences adjacent to the Canadian National Railway rlghtof way within the Halton Hills Development Corporation subdivision The property is located of Trafalgar Road within Hamlet of Stewerttown Further Information Is available In the Planning Department ALL INTERESTED CITIZENS ARE WELCOME Time Date Monday March 25 Location Council Chambers Civic Centre Helton Hills Drive Halton Hills Georgetown Ad No If you qualify you can get a cheque for 85 of the first 300 of your tax refund and 95 of the rest Plus your tax return will be accurately prepared at no extra charge So why wait for the refund cheque to arrive by mail Ask about Cash Back at HR Block and get your refund fast Under New Ownership In A New Location JAMES STREET OH Main St Downtown Georgetown 8737855
