THE HERALD Wednesday February 1991 Page 25 Harden tops qualifiers for Darts Ontario singles The big news this week must be Rick Hardens qualifying for Darts Ontario finals in singles in place Harden finished ahead of Mick Sweeney a and nationally ranked player Equally in the big news depart are Paul Kirby Jeff Henderson Ian McDonald and Mark See who also qualified In ladies singles Julie qualified in fourth place I am told that Ron Scarlett and I had a good chance of joining the squad had we made the last quali tying and made a point or two Not for many years has this locale produced as many for the later stages of provincial com petition Miltons Gord also made the final stages in singles Halton Leagues singles cham pionshlp took place on Feb and will be covered next week In the meantime all league mat dies are now made up as of last Monday McGibbon no l have moved in second place following double wins over George no Leading still are George no seventeen points being the ad vantage In third spot are no 2 with no being close behind The standings show a great dlf between top and bottom teams With 14 teams playing maybe it is time to consider two divisions At the top it is much closer in competition than in the previous years of the league which main tains interest to the end Some teams find it difficult to make a full team and have to forfeit as a result Which leads me to a ques tion stand up the real Tim McGuire Jeff Henderson scored and 138 for an impressive night High close went to Hugh Smid 131 and Danny 112 Many players came through with high score points including some unknowns Larry Hunt Marllynn Darlene Wheeler Brian Ward Ken Baker Pete Conway Colin Hicks Murphy Doug Weir Peter Kline and Paul The others are more regularly featured in the column Wednesday evening at the Legion saw the close of the Darts by Alex Tough Oates tourney with Gasketman Cutters defeating in the final If memory serves me correctly this is the reverse of last years final Cutters played well and deserv ed the win in the end Rick Harden Jeff Richardson who closed out both sets Stan and Mark See represented the winners Dennis Thorogood Eric Fuller Ray Ackroyd and Brian Hicks played for runner up In league play Ensigns Bulldogs Snowjacks Hustlers and Cutters all recorded first division wins In the second division In dependents Aces Firemen and Acadian Pools were the victors Hustlers were points ahead of Cutters In the first division and Aces move back to second place some points behind Pools Terry Hancock opened 120 and Hugh Smid 108 and Rick Harden closed an incredible triple 20 triple 15 and bull Paul Kirby Tony Jim Fisher Eric Fuller Beau Beaumont Erwin See Stan each scored over first division play High opener in the second sion went to Graham Griffith with HO and Gord Inglis shot 102 to open Ace Baileys was the high finish High scores came to Jim Watson Bill McCartney Gord Todd Marty Claude Paul Karolldis and Jim Franks This Saturday
