for a seniors cen tre The Georgetown and District Seniors Association has invited over 300 local business people professionals and individuals to an information meeting March at Holy Cross Parish Hall in Georgetown to explain why the community needs a centre The meetings purpose is to in form business people sionals and service clubs as well as the public about what goes on in a senior centre and who sup ports them and why said Association President Mellish We will be asking those in at tendance to support in principle a seniors centre for Georgetown said Mr Mellish The Georgetown and District Seniors Association represents more than seniors according to the assocatlons brochure Mr Mellish is hopeful a strong show of committed community support for a centre will convince Town Council to get behind the idea The Town s Budget Committee recently recommended approval of its 10year capital budget forecast which excludes the con struction of a seniors centre Council is scared stiff of sup 1991 operating budget The majority of the CVCA Councillors costs total Regional councillors will learn today Wednesday that 1990 councillor salaries and expenses totalled According to a Regional staff report that will be presented to council today was paid out in salaries to the 24 Regional councillors and Regional Chairman Peter Coun of which four are from Halton Hills Mayor Miller Marilyn Serjeanston Rick Bon and Joe Hewitt were each paid The chairman 1990 salary was 66 The Region spent 316 towards councillor benefits 76 for their car mileage and meeting allowance expenses and for conference ex penses the report s author Halton Treasurer Joe Rinaldo wrote Regional Councillors Bonnette Johnston and Mayor Miller spent 1314 and 304 respectively on con ferences last year Coun Bon and Mayor Miller both at tended the fiveday Federation of Canada Municipalities in Quebec conference this past summer while Coun Johnston attended the sixday Refuse Collection and Disposal Associa tion Conference in Vancouver Coun Serjeantson and Hewitt had no conference ex penses last year budget like those of Ontario other authorities is funded by the various Authority member municipalities and the province The amount each member municipality pays an Authority depends on how much of the Authority jurisdiction is in that municipality The amount of funding also depends on the rate of
