third place finish in men earning him the trip to Brooke Remenda placed third in Preliminary ladies Industrial Curling League Brier inspires improved play Competition at the Brier held at Coliseum in Hamilton last week seemed to in spire some aboveaverage play In Georgetown Industrial Curling League last Thursday One of the close games was played between Hackers and Challengers These teams adopted Brier like strategy blanking the first two ends while they learned their ices lines and curl looking for an opening First blood was forced on the Hackers With Don Campbell calling the shots they took a single point in the third and came on to steal another in the fourth for a lead Paul Barbers Challenger rink got their engines reving in the fifth for two They then manufactured their steal of one in the next end to take the lead after six ends Errors by the Barber side in the seventh were capitalized upon In a big way by the Hackers as all team members from An through to Campbell were curling well They captured four points and the writing looked to be on the wall for Challengers The Challengers however show ed their grit They finessed three points in the eighth and the game finished in a tie The Boys locked horns with The Automatons This game started out as if it was going to be an easy night for They grabbed a four point lead with two in each of the first two ends Dave front end of Bryan Reynolds and Ian Arnold and his vice Ted Dobbins were making things easy for their skip in the early going The Foster foursome were not ready to go home early and in the back of their minds the late January drubbing they had taken from this same team In the fifth and sixth ends The Automatons exploded Started by the set up shots of Joan and Ken Picon The Automaton crew wrestled five points out of The Noval Boys and for the first time in the game they had the lead The score stood at The Boys took one in the seventh and with the ad vantage of last rock Steve Foster took the all important
