Tourna ment chairman said he especial enjoyed seeing each day of the event play itself out Curry said this was the 31st year of the tournament which has become a focal point of the association As a result he said his goal as chairman was to get teams signed up to play he got 30 and make the week long fair run as smoothly as possible I think we were very sue cessful this year We had a lot of people watching most of the games and many of the coaches and parents of the other teams told me they were impressed with how things were organized Curry said one of the things he did to help attract teams was pro vide the easiest possible playing schedule for them especially for those coming from a greater distance away I spent a lot of time on the schedule with some teams not playing their first game until the third day of the tournament This allowed a few to get their round robin games out of the way faster and be able to know if they would be continuing or not While Curry said he put in a lot of time and effort he was not about to take all the credit ting out that many people from the area toiled along with him We certainly had some ex help a lot more of it com ing from people who hadn done it before making it much more a community event The Hockey Heritage Council made a big too They gave the tourna ment its start and it was great to see them back in it again Curry and some other GMHA members also wanted to thank the following people in particular for their help Bob Tost Del Beaumont Larry White Doug Harlow Bob Webster Bill Richardson Mike Fry Ron Kavanaugh John Bill Stencite Bud James Rene Mar tin Shell and Gerry Perkins The chairman said he has no regrets about how the touma ment went though he would have tried to advertise the approach of the event a little more ag by putting up posters in store windows to help remind the public One thing was Buffalo withdrawing from the tourna ment after playing their round robin games Our schedule con flicted with their state champion ships and they pulled out It s pretty tough running a ment at this time of the year since there seem to be a lot of things going on for other people Jason Allison of the Grand Championship
