Interaction with newspaper helps everyone With the approach of warmer weather after months of snow and ice its not hard to believe the end of the hockey season is near Some teams have already stashed away their equipment after early elimination from the playoffs and are waiting anxious ly for the fields to dry up enough for baseball Before the hockey season slips away Id just like to thank all the people who have provided the Herald with scores stories tips pictures and questions Without them I couldnt have written some of the articles that ap peared In fact the response was so good that at times there wasnt enough room to fit everyone in as soon as they were received Occa sionally some articles had to wait for the following issue but fortunately it didnt happen too often As a result of the volume of material many had to be trimm ed down or rewritten slightly and I hope that I havent hurt any feelings by doing that As a writer who has had my own work edited I know what tis like to nave an article wind up shorter than it was expected to be On the one hand some names and details had to be left out of some stories On the other by making the extra space more ar ticles with their own names and details were able to be included With space limitations its hard to fully please everyone all the time At the other end of the spec trum there were often times when there was room for everyone and all the writeups were reprinted in their full length When possible pictures relating to the stories were run in conjunction with the articles litis is my next point If I am made aware in advance preferably one week of a tour nament or special event the chances of the Herald getting a picture of it are much greater A picture is worth a thousand words remember At the very least the paper could serve to let the public know about the event and be able to attend Id like to emphasize that I thought the response the Herald received from the communitys budding writers has been fan tastic I had been aware before I began working here of some of our regular contributors and I appreciate their continued ef- forts but the influx of new sub missions was surprising Many calls from firsttime writers were received tbfe past year asking what they needed to do in order to get their teams ex ploits printed in the paper Giving them the answers wasnt difficult and the articles they sent in often needed very little editing As a result I hope that our con tributors were encouraged by what they have seen reprinted in the paper and are- looking for ward to continuing their efforts I also look forward to seeing our regular summer contributors as well They were here when I first began at the Herald and were especially helpful In making the sports section successful For those thinking of sending an arti cle in for the first time please do so If you have any questions feel free to call me at 8772201 Thanks again for all your help Tournament success for Rebel players
