Georgetown District High School with its annual championship day won this year by the Burgundy team Burgundy was the strongest team in the team league finishing the regular season with the best record and only losing one game in the round robin championship League president Elaine said this year was another successful one for the ladies involved with all teams maintaining a full compliment of players throughout the season We have eight players per team with a waiting list of Some leave due to school or mov ing but we always have enough to take their place said some of the ladies in the league taking play ing very seriously but most come out purely for the fun of it One of the things several players said they liked about belonging to the league was that there was lit tle pressure and making a mistake wasnt the end of the world to their teammates said she would be playing again next year but is letting some of the others have a turn on the executive taking a break after two years as presi dent She said the schedule for people thinking of Joining up isnt very demanding with the games held once a week on Monday nights from 730 to 1000 pm from midOctober to the end of March The teach adults to learn how running a popup book program he young children Herald photo By ROBERT RISK Herald Sports Editor The Halton Hills Recreation and Parks Department is in troducing a local resident who will be running many of its new spring programs for this year most of them geared towards children Nora Savage who lives just outside of Acton has been involv ed with childrens programs for several years and is currently the secretary for the Ontario Pup petry Association and a member of Visual Arts Ontario Savage said she had approach ed the recreation department for a letter of reference when apply ing for a provincial grant to run her puppetry workshops when the Halton Hills staff decided to put her valuable resources to work for them I thought it was a great idea I love working with children and running the programs is easier because everything is nearby Puppets arent the only thing Savage will be doing for the local recreation department She is also involved with the Saturday morning Peanut Club and Kids in the Kitchen The Peanut Club is comprised of games stories songs crafts puppets and other fun The kitchen program is a cooking class that will teach eight to 12yearolds how to put together a complete meal Ill also be teaching a course in basic kite making for families 1 got the idea when I was travell ing in Bangkok where I saw many people taking part in family kite flying days Savage said step by step in structions for building the kites will be given with several dif ferent levels provided according to age level The workshop is a half day in length and will be held May at Park in the morning and at Prospect Park in the afternoon Im also looking forward to the Walk Talk and Be Happy pro gram since it gives people of all ages the chance to do something together Its a leisurely hike along the Bruce Trail taking about an hour Savage said many groups have such walks in the summer but are usually geared to a specific age group The recreation departments walks will enable children parents young couples and seniors the opportunity to share an experience The two dates for the walks are June and June Currently Savage is involved in teaching young children how to make popup books at the Georgetown Library on Satur days After the spring programs are completed Savage said she will be offering a puppet workshop in the fall for
