THE WEEKEND OUTLOOK Friday Seniors- Volunteer driving group needed By FLORENCE WILKINSON Herald Much to my surprise a couple of weeks ago I found that the volunteer driver pool for Georgetown had not become a reality this past summer I heard that there were two reasons the first that the name of the Coun cillor on the Seniors Coordinating Committee happens to be a name from Acton and far be it for Georgetown people to have anything to do with what Acton instigates Apparently there is still not enough information about the Coordinating committee being for Halton Hills The second reason and I suspect at least I hope it was the real reason was some concern about insurance coverage for volunteer drivers I have checked with Peggie Valkind the employee of who coordinates the volunteer drivers for the Acton region and have this to offer about in surance ASSIC carries a third party liability policy to cover the volunteers Each volunteer has to carry his or her own insurance of course and ASSIC checks to be sure the policy earned is ade quate It is important to check regularly with the head office of the insurances companies about their policy about volunteers so that all eventualities are covered With the discussion going on around car insurance over the past few months It is more impor tant then ever that thiB checking be done At present Peggie is in the midst of checking for the benefit of the Acton volunteer drivers Now the reason that I found out about the absence of volunteer drivers in Georgetown has nothing to do with my own awareness of what goes on in the town I just happened to hear that people of Georgetown were call ing ASSIC and asking for volunteer rides in the Georgetown area This seems to mean as far a I can see that there is still a need for a volunteer driving group for just general driving around the Georgetown area I have nothing to do with this myself though I do occasionally do volunteer driving but I hope that this business of volunteer driving for Georgetown would get to be a reality There are many who need the service or at least whose lives would be brightened if there was such a service Peg has promised to let me know what the results of her current checking with the insurance com panics are and I am sure that they will be the same for the Georgetown area as for the area After all we are all one in Hills We may still be able to develop a corps of drivers for Georgetown and district within the near future If it is needed let us hope so Vanity Jab Mostly Bath Bed and Table Linens Preferred Bridal Registry Service Main Street
