played a game of musical dumping with Halton Hills Bylaw Enforcement f Ron Stein and lost Fred McLaughlin was found guilty Thursday during a Milton court hearing for illegally dump ing on two of his properties said Mr Stein Thursday The judge gave Mr McLaughlin a month to cleanup the properties before deciding on an appropriate fine The max imum fine Mr McLaughlin faces is a total of In response to a public com plaint Mr Stein investigated Mr McLaughlins property on Highway near Sideroad 22 last summer and found it to be clut tered with wood derelict vehicles household waste and furniture among other items Mr Stein subsequently receiv ed another public complaiU about a property located on the Town Line south of 15 that was full of litter After investigating this proper ty Mr Stein learned that McLaughlin also owned this pro perty and was transferring litter from the Highway 7 property to the Town Line property in an at tempt to skirt the Town littering bylaw The charges were laid said Mr Stein after several warnings to clean up the properties went unheeded Mr Stein said this case represents one of similar cases he investigates at any one time The number of people using their property as dumping grounds hasnt increased over the past several years said Mr Stein What has increased is peoples intolerance for seeing this type of action go unpunished Meanwhile Mr Stein said the number of people living outside the community using property in Halton Hills as dumps is on the rise He is currently investigating several complaints which couldnt be revealed at this time Mr Stein attributes the in crease to the lack of available dumping areas in communities surrounding Halton Hills Fire calls Grass fire battle Halton Hills firefighters battled a grass fire in Acton for over an hour last Thursday after a fair sized field was eaten up by flames Firefighters say employees of an Acton business were burning rub bish in a field at Main Street North in Acton when sparks from the fire ignited the grass There was no damage The same day firefighters were called out to Acton to extinguish a burning tire on a tractor trailer that was parked at Main and Mill Street Firefighters report the fire started because of a poor brake system and one rear wheel brake linings were burning Firefighters were on the scene for minutes and it is unknown how much damage the fire
