EDUCATION WEEK Wednesday May 1 1991 Page Berrys Thoughts on the environment Today in our society the rate of pollution has been sky rocketing The amount of garbage produced a day is over a million tonnes We must get into recycling even more Maybe we could start to get large companies and schools to start to recycle paper bottles clear plastic bottles and tin cans But now theres an even bigger problem The rain forests are be ing destroyed by man and without our rain forests our world will not last long With all the nuclear plants and big manufac turing companies the pollution rate will rise tremendously in the next few years Robbie Pretty well everywhere you walk you see garbage On the streets in the parks or on the school yards Its easy to pick up a piece of paper bottle or can I think that everytime you go for a walk or are just outside and see some garbage pick it up and put it in a garbage can By doing this there will be less garbage and a cleaner environ ment and for everyone surroun ding that area The rate of recycl ing has increased a considerable amount in the past few years A way you can take part in the recycling is if you go shopping take a cloth bag instead of using the plastic bags from the stores Most of the stores have recycled bags but it will still help a little If you take a paper bag when you are finished take it back and use it another time When you are finished using a bottle clean it and use again Thank you to all the people who have taken part and for those who arent Do you care Gary Mclean I think many people are not taking recycling seriously They are throwing their blue box aside and just complaining that there are not enough people recycling I think that they should fine the people who do not use their blue box and try to catch them We should use seethrough garbage bags This might influence some people into recycling What about the kind of material we can place in the blue box I think that there are many more items that should be allowed in the blue box For example drink ing boxes cardbqard boxes plastic serving dishes and plastic sandwich bags So for all you peo ple who are recycling keep it up and for all you who are not please start it is for the future Concerned citizen Colin Broadbent The Happy Grocer Georgetown Measure 10 Store Hours Clo don at In 7o CMS- -p-
