to wear helmets Parents should purchase properly fitted helmets for their children and ensure that they wear them every time they cycle And parents should set a good ex ample for their children and started off last week at the fairgrounds playing on Monday Wednesday and Friday MONDAY MAY Peelers She The sun was shining for the Peelers as they breezed through seven innings of ball with She Devils breathing hot on their trail but to no avail Good pit ching for both teams Linda Mc Clure started off for Peelers with her first home run For the Devils Doreen Dobbins knew how to bunt and Kim Kirk had great wheels with two stolen bases Black Widows 19 Infield Files 19 Looks like those Black Widows were hungry for flies With a comeback from 131 they must have been starving The Widows had great bats going with Stacey Hamilton and Yvonne batting three for three Hall Julie Cutting Tammy Lock wood Robin Richardson and Diane Saunders all having two each Lets not forget our new mom Melanie going four for four with five and the tying run The Flies buzzed with action all around with Karen Apple Yard hitting a grand slam and chalking up six big followed by Heinz with a double a and four RBIs Brenda Cole went three for three and Cindy Kavanaugh had four strikeouts La Bats Blue 8 Bishops Queens 3 Looks like the Queens came down with the blues even with a good effort from all they could not shake those blues away While Mary Jones had a great catch in left field all four pit chers taking a turn on the mound and Dini Fisher and Annette Van Dyke each had doubles the Blues couldnt lose With Blues Sandy pitching up a storm Sue Fergusons double play at third and great defence by Rose Ann Harrison Susan Walsh and also Lisa Johnsons it was check mate all the way WEDNESDAY MAY Traveling Blueberries Green Monsters The Berries didn get stomped on this round as both teams made a great effort The Travelers just gave a little more effort with Elaine Moreland pit ching well and hitting great along with Karen Smith Bennett Mary Becker Wanda Lemay each scoring a couple of runs The Monsters were no slouches with Suzette Corley Carol Hillock Lisa Johnston Cathy Seaton and Paula all knock ing that ball around Tonys Champagne On Ice What a combination Both teams had good pitching and played an even game with Tarts melting the Ices defence in two strong innings Tracy and Laura knocked out doubles and Lesley Beaque was great behind the plate Champagne on ice had fun with Lon Taylor hitting a double and Wendy Shannon slamming out her first home run of the year The Outlaws 15 Thunder Buns 13 The Outlaws left those buns in a cloud of dust as they stormed to an exciting first win With Sharon shining on the mound and great hitting by Lynda Chadwick Betty Fendley and Bonnie Melen- shooting her first home run this year Also great defence by Dawn Susie Williams and Pat getting the final out to save the game The Thunder Buns made a good effort to catch those Outlaws with Jennie David pounding out a homer and Sinnaeve doing a f me job behind the plate FRIDAY MAY Black Widows 20 Green Monsters 9 Those Widows had their fans in the Monsters right from the start Stacey Hamilton was in control on the mound and Denise Brownlee Julie Cutting Tammy Suzanne Presswood and Melanie Hewson all hitting well against the Monsters who gave a good effort with Carol Hillock hitting her first homerun and Jennifer Reynolds and Virginia Walker all hitting good Tonys Tarts Bishops Queens Those Tarts were so smooth they slid by the Queens to come up with a win Mane and pitched well Heather Hansen hit a triple and Bonnie Schell came through in the clutch to put the Tarts ahead Queens made a good effort and almost tipped those Tarts with Jones defence and batting Anne Korzacks two great catches and good pitching staff La Bats Blue 12 She Devils Those Blues had to cool their soles with the Devils hot on their heels Good hitting by Colleen Cadger Harrison Lisa Johnson and a great catch in centre by Patti Sunnucks gave them a win Devils didnt let up with Barrett Elizabeth and Wenham shooting flames all over the diamond Devils also had seven stolen bases FULL
