Youths with social or emotional problems in schools are among those who will benefit from new provincial grants A successful Youth Aiding Youth program offered by the Children Assessment and Treatment Centre in Halton is one of the programs that will be expanded as a result of the fun ding Zanana Akande Ontario s Minister of Community and Social Services announced that in onetime funding will be given to the Children s Assess and Treatment Centre for its Oakville and North Halton programs and offices Today s funding allows the ex of the Youth Aiding Youth program in and North These programs Mam and Mill Mall Wednes day were asked to shop elsewhere by five Foods workers of Union Local who chose Acton to picket on their 22nd day of strike action The strikers blocked the en trance and handed out flyers ask ing people not to shop at IGA Food City and Plus stores which are owned by Oshawa Foods until workers get better job security Money is not the problem here The main problem is job security said the group leader Henry Mainz We want more control over our pensions In a press release the union states Oshawa Foods hadn t made any contributions to the pension plan from 1384 to Instead the release states almost million of the plan s surplus was used to entirely off set company costs This surplus was developed largely as a result of member contributions prior to and interest earned on past contributions Although they admit what the company has done is legal workers argue it was morally wrong and that s why they re asking for support from con sumers Acton manager Mike Manes said the strikers haven prevented customers from shopp ing but they did stop unionized truck drivers from unloading their delivenes Their presence is stopping trucks from coming in with their
