Peewee players efforts bench Midgets Moat people can look back at their days playing sports when they were a lot younger and remember with some pride a par ticular play they made More often than not the effort something that won a championship but was just something special that helped their team to a win a tiny mo ment in the if you will Those moments are often more notable for the players whc might not have been the stars of the team but on that particular day their play was something special One of those times happened on Friday to a young baseball player who played way over his head figuratively and physical making some of his elders take a back seat I talking about Michael Kel a player who was drafted onto the Midget team which would have had to forfeit their opening game of their own tournament an embarrassing prospect when only eight players had shown up Kelly hap pened to be practicing with some of his teammates at the same time and agreed to be the ninth body Kelly wasn t content to just be somebody filling a jersey either Though he was put out in left field where it was figured he get in much trouble Kelly motored after a foul ball hit deep between the light poles and snag it for an out Later in right field Kelly showed his catching skills weren an accident as he grabbed a shot that would have been at least a double if not for him They may just be small ac complishments but going in with guys several years older than yourself and being able to con tribute won t be easy to forget especially for Kelly By the way specials thanks goes out to the coaches who benched the two players who showed up late allowing Kelly to keep playing A classy move guys Raves and Raspberries Raves for the great playoff series put on by the Pittsburgh Penguins and Minnesota North Stars Neither team had ever won the Stanley Cup in their histories giving the sport a boost in those cities especially Minnesota who had real attendance problems Raves go out to the fans who stuck with the Stars all year in stead of jumping on the band wagon come playoff time Raspberries to the Town of Hills Recreation and Parks Department for the lousy condition of Georgetown District High School field Risky Business realizes work was recently done on the field but why are groups such as the Flag Football League allowed to play on if If they shouldn be on it nobody notified them Regardless the sprinkler heads are poking even higher out of the ground than usual and there is a sunken trench at one end of the field making the area an accident waiting to happen to
