Golf season is hazardous for bystanders Worked on the old golf swing over the weekend After a winter of inactivity the arms were definitely in need of a tuneup to get my follow back to its usual half decent performance level It was horrible watching the first 20 or so shots hooking them way off to the left thats one of the trademarks of a lef- golfer Some of the shots were so curved thatl was making a few of the other people practicing a little nervous You see since there are so few lefties playing the game the operators of the driving range I went to didnt take people like myself or my evil left hook into account putting a putting course off to that side Granted there is a token IBfoot fence there but my mortar shells were clearing it with ease giving some of the kid dies quite a start as the plaster heads of Mickey Mouse and Goofy exploded from the high altitude impact of my golf balls Trying to correct this problem immediately led to other dif ficulties such as cropping the grass down to its roots and below in a long narrow lane or making some that would make George Bells look like he was in Little League Whiffing the ball is worse though Id sooner put one high in the sky than watch my ball dribble off a few inches away from the tee Eventually things got Risky Business by Robert Risk straightened out and those white dimpled orbs of destruction were hurtling towards their objectives usually the ball collector a challenging moving target or the 150 200 or 250 yard signs The 100 yard sign is by far the most haggard looking Though meant as a guide to help golfers judge their distance it is the most convenient target for frustrated participants who vent their anger by putting some line drives through it with their woods The next logical step is to take my revitalizing skills to the golf course for that dreaded first visit of the season The drives may have had most of their kinks worked out at the range but shots from the rough and the sand traps are always a different story Ill try and get out very early on the weekend so that there will be fewer witnesses on the course Raves and Raspberries Raves for Sheri Nairn presi dent of the Georgetown District High School Athletic Association and all the others who helped make the Rebels athletic banquet on Friday a big success There were only a couple of people ab sent with lots of great music food and conversation I had a lot of fun and am already looking forward to next years Raspberries to the Town of Halton Hills Recreation and Parks Department for still not doing anything to improve GDHS field I was refereeing flag foot ball on Sunday and nearly broke my ankle on the very uneven turf THE HALTON HILLS HERALD THE HERALD Wednesday June 1991 Kinsmen Softball B Tyke Baseball B3 Alex
