season matches and the others at the Flesherton tourna ment Every good ball team has to take a loss occasionally and this was the case for OTooles on June 1 Clarkson defeated Georgetown 3 Two runs from the bat of Ferguson and a single from Brent McClung was not enough to keep OTooles win rung streak alive Georgetown was not daunted by their loss to They faced a strong Burlington club on June beating them by two runs Down in the fourth Georgetown took the lead thanks to a solid double from Mark Fedchyshyn OTooles were able to hold Burlington in the fifth with a key double play from shortstop Greg McCullough In the top of the seventh inning Burlington came back to tie the game With curfew approaching OTooles needed a run to win or they would have to settle for a tie Leading off the scoring was Greg Stealing home followed by Brent McClung Final score was 7 5 for Georgetown The winning pitcher was Geoff Bahr with the save go ing to Brent McClung On June 8 OTooles travelled to for their Mosquito Invitational Tournament In the first game Georgetown met Bolton for what proved to be an exciting ball game After two innings of play Georgetown took a lead with a triple going to Trevor Rich and runs batted in by Sean Hardcas tie and Brent With pit cher Devon Fraser facing only three batters Georgetown finish ed off the inning by scoring another seven runs RBIs went to Geoff Bahr Trevor Rich Robert McLeod Mark Fed chyshyn Andrew and Devon In the fourth inning Fraser again faced three batters With hits and runs scored by Rich and OTooles took a 10 run lead Bolton made a valiant effort to come back in the fifth but to no avail after five Georgetown won by a mercy rule 133 In the second game Georgetown was in need of a win in order to advance to the finals OTooles faced Port Elgin who had won their first game by a score of Port Elgin started off the scor early with two well placed New competition for Jr B Raiders The Central Ontario Jr B Hockey League is expanding in the season adding two teams to its ranks The two new teams Royal York Rangers and Ajax Axemen are joining the East Division which Georgetown Raiders play in Peterborough Petes which finished in last place this past season have moved over to the West Division Rangers are a newly created team while Axemen have mov ed up from the Jr C level As a result of the changes the league decided to allow only the top six teams out of eight in each division to the playoffs at the end of the regular season According to Raiders Presi dent Finn Poulstrup in years of expansion all teams would be permitted to enter post season play He added that the changes bode well for the health of the league likely making it one of the most competitive in the pro vince Overall excellence more runs to come in Marc Kyle and Mathew Seaman caught key fly balls Ryan Van guarded left field Streetsville were surprised to play a stronger team when they tackled Georgetown on June Although Streetsville won by a score of 27 the Georgetown boys were no pushover In Burlington on June 6 Georgetown took an early lead The teams battled back and forth during an exciting game In the last second Burlington whacked a homer and won by one run Kevin Binsell tore around the bases while Jetf Martin caught a super fly The Streetsville tournament on June was great fun Although the fans wilted in the heat the team played great ball Helping out were Chris and Ryan Tyrell Crews and Andrew Oeseh were smashing hits but it t enough to win the games The scores for the three games were 197 Clarkson 266 and Erin Mills Lawn Bowling The Fifth Annual Canada Bowls Challenge Tournament will be held at the Georgetown Lawn Bowling Club on June 22 start at am Two eightend games will be played Local organizations and service clubs are invited to participate Entry fee is 5 per person with all proceeds going to the War Amps of Canada CHAMP program Flag football for charity The Georgetown Ladies Flag Football League is extending an open invitation to its fourth annual tournament being held June 22 at Georgetown District High School There will be six teams in the tournament which includes volleyball ex cellence this year Sucker play The Ontario Provincial Police will be rewarding children for wearing their life- jackets while boating in the pro vince between June 29 and September 2 Started by Lions Head detachment members patrol parts of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron Lhe Dont Be Sucker Wear Your Lifejacket program now involves a candy sucker being given to all children wearing on
