the HER Community News THE HERALD Wednesday June The resurrection of Snowball By LISA BO0NST0PPELP0T The Herald To see Snowball now no one would ever know she was once a bedraggled castoff who had a tumor and whose teeth and gums were seriously infected Thanks to the Camplone of Acton and hundreds of local citizens who donated money Snowball is now a healthy fluffy pet whos just found a good home The heart warming drama began three weeks ago when An and Karl Camplone rescued a dog who was wandering aimlessly down Hwy Think ing it may have been lost they put up posters in the area tising the lost dog but nobody responded Realizing they had a castoff on their hands they took the dog a Spitz they named Snowball to a veterinarian who told them Snowball needed her teeth scraped and an operation to remove a tumor in her breast Because the couldnt afford the operation themselves they approached the Herald to write a story appeal to the public to donate money to save Snowballs life and the money started pouring In just two weeks the Camplone s were given 629 by friends and strangers who were moved by the dogs plight The amount of money coming in has been phenomenal said Mrs Camplone We really ap preciate the caring and concern people demonstrated and the funds which helped us cure Snowball As soon as the first came she took Snowball to the veterinarian where the pro to scrape Snowballs teeth and operation to remove her breast tumor went well fortunately the tumor was cancerous but the vet told Mrs it would be highly unlikely a cancerous growth would return before Snowball dies of old age Snowball is eight years old Once Snowballs health im proved Mrs Camplone started interviewing prospective owners for Snowball At first she feared it would be difficult to find a home for the dog because Snowball has an aversion to children and was snappish to children who tried to pet her But last Friday she found a young man without children who fell for Snowball at first sight and gradually won over the affection of the dog Its a happy ending for Snowball who might have suf fered a fate if the s had not rescued her from the highway Police pinups Halfway through the
