what is being descnbed as their living nightmare A Toronto judge ruled Friday the people who bought into the Death car driver gets 1 8 months The Brampton man who pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving involving the death of Trevor Kemp of Ballinafad has been sentenced to 18 months in jail Christopher was also prohibited from driving for five years by Judge Ron Thomas in Brampton Ontario Court general divi sion July The judge could have given Mr Pettit the maximum prison sentence for dangerous driving of years but instead sentenced him to 18 mon ths in jail on both counts which are to be served concurrently said Constable Steve Phillips of the Peel Regional Police Special Accident Bureau Mr pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving in April after the car he was driving slammed into a tractor trailer last May on Steeles Avenue and Rutherford Road in Brampton Trevor Kemp was a passenger in the car along with 20yearold Daniel of Brampton Both died from Injuries sole elevator was on Page Police standoff ends peacefully By LISA B Herald A Georgetown man suspected of robbing a Georgetown conve nience store early Friday morn ing barricaded himself in his Prince Charles Drive home for over an hour Friday afternoon before he peacefully surrendered to Regional Polices Tac tical Rescue Unit The TRU team had their guns trained on the Prince Charles Drive home when 30yearold Vic tor Steven Cunningham emerged from the house and was arrested by Halton detectives He was charged with one count of armed robbery in relation to a robbery which occurred at Macs Milk at 10 Mountainview Road just after midnight Friday morn ing Detective Sergeant Keith Woudstra said it all began when a man picked up a carton of milk at Macs walked over to the counter as if to purchase the milk and pulled a knife on the night clerk while demanding money The clerk turned over and a carton of cigarettes demanded by the suspect The suspect then fled the store When we questioned the clerk he gave us a unique description of the suspect said Det Sgt Given this descrip tion plus other information we had at the station We were quite convinced Victor Cunningham was the person responsible The suspect was described as having brown hair and eyes a goatee type beard a moustache and a lazy eye Det Sgt Woudstra obtained a search warrant to search the Prince Charles Drive home and believing the suspect was away knocked on the door The suspect and another male came to the door but as soon as they saw who we were they fled back inside he said The other Continued on Page Mayor furious with province Ignorant Thats the word Halton Hills Mayor Russ Miller used during an interview Monday to describe a letter sent to him from the provinces Ministry of Environment on the issue of addi tional water for Glen Williams The letter was in response to the Mayors request that the pro vince push the Glen Williams water project ahead in order that provincial funding be forthcom ing sooner rather than later This would require a re- evaluation of the million pro ject an undertaking the province will only do if additional in formation concerning the project is made available or conditions have changed substantially since the original submission ac cording to the MOE letter The province has indicated it will fund the Glen Williams water project only when money becomes available meaning when the province deems it a high enough priority The provin cial government is slated to fund per cent of the project with the Region and the Town covering the remaining amount All that is necessary is the pro vinces share said Mayor Miller It was a pretty ignorant letter for a bureaucrat to write he said angrily Continued on Page 5 Council defers housing statement once again Hills Council once again buckled under public pressure and deferred voting on the pro posed Town Municipal Housing Statement during Mondays council meeting Faced with similar public pressure on the same issue two weeks ago councillors at that time deferred rather than deal with the item The Towns Municipal Housing Statement provides statistical projections on future population growth land requirements for that growth and the percentages of low medium and high density housing that should be encourag ed over the next 20 years However several residents Monday as was the case two weeks ago took exception to the projections outlined in the report It was after hearing from the residents that council decided to defer the issue until staff had time to determine if any of the publics comments could be in corporated into the report Town Councillor Marilyn Ser- jeantson introduced the deferral motion explaining the report as it stands isnt positive enough Her comments were in reference to the fact the Town currently has a threeyear supply of serviced land for development and and Official Plan which designates sufficient land to accommodate growth over the next 10 years Coun Serjeantson requested the deferral so these facts could be included in the statement She requested the deferral after Ken Thorn speaking on behalf of Residents Active in Development decisions said the three and land supply statistics should be included in the housing state ment Without this information Mr Thorne said the report in dicates we town dont have enough land to accommodate future
