Georgetown golfer Gloria Sinclair showed she was in fine form by winning the North Halton Golf and Country Club s Ladies Tournament on Monday her eighth such victory a row and her club title Sinclair who has been golfing for years said this is her best season on the courses so far qualifying for the Canadian Amateurs for the first time by placing 10th at the Ontario Amateur Golf Tournament in Kit chener July 1 really looking forward to going especially since I doing so well We did well by beating the Quebec amateurs at North Halton July 2930 so I think I can do well against players from the other provinces She said her 231 score in Kit chener was a strong effort though she had two penalty strokes in the last round which cost her a higher finish since a score of 228 was good enough for fifth place Finishing in the top four earn ed you a spot on the Ontario team which gets its expenses paid Those four play for the no ttonal team title while the others play individually Sinclair said she has always en joyed playing golf ever since her father got her started on the game Later a marriage to Doug Sinclair a former golf pro at the North and Georgetown Golf Clubs t hamper her from improving her game In deed golfing skills have been passed along to her son Greg 17 who has a handicap of two and is trying to get a golfing scholarship in the United States I get out and practice quite a lot about three or four times a week I working on my driving more these days though that us to be my strong point try and play with my friend Julie Green since were at about the same level In fact she also playing in Winnipeg To help keep herself in shape Sinclair said she plays squash at the Georgetown Racquet Club during the winter months Aside from playing at North Halton she said there to get up in the morning to do chores Although Miss have to get up in the morning to help Erin s dad Terry Leslie milk his herd of Holstein dairy cattle she was kept busy during her 10day which ended Aug Together the two girls toured Ontario along with other H members from Saskatchewan and involved with the Con organized by the Can ida H council in Ottawa The group visited Toronto to see the Tower and Skydome Niagara Falls a race horse breeding arm Wonderland and Wild Water Kingdom the vet col lege at the University of and and St Jacobs to see farms They also took part in the Halton Peel judging competition held at Roy Thompson s dairy farm on Winston Churchill Boulevard where members judged cattle sheep horses hay and grains After seeing a bit of Ontario Miss said she was to see how flat Ontario is I expected more hills she said Ontario looks more like home than I thought it would Soon Miss Leslie will get a chance to see how si miliar Saskatchewan is to Ontario when she visits Miss Lychak hobby beef farm on her part of the ex change She leaves Ontario Aug and will return on Aug 26 I think it will be interesting to meet new people she cited as a reason she wanted to take part in the exchange I haven t ed much and I think it 11 be neat to go out west While staying at Miss Lychak s home she 11 probably visit a Hut tente colony learn how to paint eggs in the Ukraman tradition visit the Western Development Centre a pulp and paper mill and a local water park She also get a first hand chance to visit local farmers and sec how farming differs between the two exchange also promotes H and allows for persona development within the exchange participants The Peel Region office of the Ontano Ministry of Agriculture applied for the opportunity to be part of the
