the HERALDl Communfty News Wednesday August l 1991 Peoples Forum Hospital extends heartfelt thanks Dear Colin On behalf of Georgetown Hospital and the 30th Anniver sary Committee we would like to take this opportunity to extend a heartfelt thanks to the residents of Hills who took part in our 30th Anniversary celebra tions The benefit show Operation 91 was a smash hit In addi tion the show raised for the Hospital Foundation To the performers and backstage crew a special thank you for generous ly volunteering your time and talents Our AnniversaryOpen House held June 23rd drew visitors from Hills as well as out side the area We were especially grateful for the support by many local organizations Georgetown and District Memorial Hospital looks forward to continuing to serve the community as we celebrate your good health past present and future Yours sincerely Graeme Goebelle FCA Chairman of the Board John Oliver Executive Director Georgetown and District Memorial Hospital Traveller expresses concerns Dear Editor Having travelled on a regular basis through southwestern On- tano this summer I have opi nions on three concerns express ed by 1 The presence of loosestrife in streams and wetlands I share the concerns of others about this obnoxious plant however perhaps a pair of hip waders could be sup plied to our weed inspector thus removing his focus on spraying then cutting the lilies along the roadside A field guide was highly recommended a few years ago but to no avail it seems 2 Chip Trucks Most towns have chip trucks and the response has been very positive because people like fresh potatoes fried while they wait There is no comparison between chips from a chip truck and chips from a fastfood outlet Georgetown needs a chip truck or two 3 Plastic flowers Georgetown is the only place Ive been this summer that is displaying ar tificial flowers in the downtown core Surely we have more pride and enthusiasm for the town than to resort to this sterile decor Perhaps the Horticultural Socie ty could initiate some ideas with thesupport of the BIA Thank you Mary Shier Limehouse Its time to change the game Columnist laments vanished prose Dear Editor To get out a newspaper in time is a high pressure operation Oc casionally in the heat of battle something happens without malice that can be upsetting to the victim When I came back from Cape Breton and looked at my column of July 31 in The Herald the one about Tony Meers and his designs for Harle quin book covers I was shocked Two whole paragraphs had vanished into thin air and the column as it was printed lacked the point it was trying to make Let me make an attempt to repair the damage by restating the last of the column Most of this did not appear in the July issue As much as we might desire the perfect union in body and soul in real life this ideal eludes us most of the time Men are hardly the sensitive being of the Harlequin Romances with no other wish but to devote themselves to a woman forever and ever And women very rarely are the soft and comforting creatures that banish with a sweet caress the heavy burdens of life a man is supposed to carry around with him now comes the missing part In real life we have made out of the world a kind of jungle in which people snarl at each other from their hotly defended ter ritories Men and women are now in fierce competition about everything and there are only oc casional ceasefires just long enough it seems to get another unhappy generation going that in turn will engage in lifelong warfare It is sad that we leave it to Romances to keep a worthy dream alive however distorted Without love and respect between people no civilization can last very long We are concerned about the weeds in our gardens but we are indifferent to the weeds in our relationships the weeds that kill the delight and profound admiration in and for each other that is the source of everything that is good in life JohnSommer Contfnuod from Page 10 The dollars they are left with have far great buying power than ours do The 3 major political parties are all the same in that they want to change the rules of the game I believe its time to change the game We have too much govern ment sticking its expensive nose where it doesnt belong and spen ding without thought for those Less government at all levels is the only way to go Canadians of all walks of life will complain to Ottawa and Queens Park until they get the message Regards Libertarian Party of Canada Hill iard Cox Deputy Leader References Population Figures Statistics Canada
