Cedarvale vandals warned of consequences Im not sure if its the warmer than usual summer weather weve been having but something has been bringing out the worst people who visit Park at night Apparently one of the soccer nets at Cedarvale was cut to pieces sometime during the weekend which will cost club about 100 to replace What makes the situation worse is that this wasn t the first time the nets have been either stolen or damaged beyond repair The grand total So far just halfway through the soccer season two have been stolen and three have been destroyed All three of the most recent in have resulted in the nets being destroyed because the Georgetown Minor Soccer League has been securing the nets with wire making it a lot of trouble for any thieves to undo I have to wonder what use anyone aside from the soccer group would have for the nets On the other hand anyone bubble brained enough to take them would probably think they look cool hanging on their wail As the situation stands now the Georgetown Minor Soccer Club is in a bind The field is used by them at least four days per week with two rep teams absolutely needing properly secured goal areas Since the nets are just barely large enough to fit ap proximately two hours are need to string them up which is why they have been left up over night Since the club is a volunteer organization its understandable that the members dont have enough tune to get out early enough ahead of the games tojwt them up Whenever the nets are ed the club has to cough up Risky Business per set so far costing them this year The executive has been looking for some time for oversiz ed nets that can be easily draped over the bars but has had no luck so far There is one solution that the Halton Regional Police Ser vice has kindly provided com munity service Its a fantastic idea Instead of just trying to extract damages from the culprit who enjoys damaging property an ac commodating judge can order the offender to perform or so hours to make amends That would certainly solve the soccer clubs problems about who would be putting up and faking down the nets for the rest of the summer As a rule the Herald doesnt usually print the names of those charged by the police but when these particular culprits are caught I have no doubt that an exception could be made While on the subject of Cedar vale Park heres a newsflash for those who have been using it as a place to booze it up often leaving their empties strewn all over the field As of July the fine for hav or consuming alcohol beverages in a public place has from to Anyone found a car with open liquor can be fined And just so you know the police have been keeping tabs on Cedarvale and have plainclothes officers mak ing periodic checks on the area most notably at night from Thursday to Saturday and Raspberries Raspberries to the Toronto Blue Jays for leaving me with nothing worth watching on televi sion Friday and Sunday After the first inning even the bible thumper shows started to look good Raves to the Canadian Football League especially the Argos for creating more interest in whats happening on the field this year Correct me if Im wrong but
