Commis sion the Halton Region Conser Authority and the Ministry of Environment on RSI s en assessment of the dump application Contacted Monday POWER president Barbara Halsall said it the report is saying what POWER has always said the dump would be unsafe for the fish habitat We highlighted this issue and others in 1988 she added Although the report indicates additional documents to RSI s original environmental assess show the company has made significant efforts to ad dress the fisheries issues the MNR still has concerns about the proposal The concerns all pertain to water quality and the potential harmful effects the dump could have on area fisheries Only when RSI can address these issues to the satisfaction of the will the ministry consider supporting the proposal the report in dicates RSI President Walter Graziam not surprisingly said he believes the assessment of the pro is incorrect He takes this position on the basis the MNR hasn provided any information to prove RSI environmental assessment lacks necessary formation Mr Graziam expressed sur the MNR would state one part of the report it finds RSI s assessment unacceptable and in another part indicate the com pany has addressed most of s concerns The MNR document also goes on to indicate the ministry has concerns with the methodology RSI used to choose the Acton quarry for a dump site The ministry cannot agree with several of the assumptions used in the analysis and selection of alternatives to the undertaking all impacts upon the environ are quarry sites are a preferred location for landfills in a generic sense Ms Halsall interprets this phrase to mean the believes RSI should never have con sidered the Acton quarry as a location for a landfill Mr Granziani however believes the Ministry s com ments are
