the HERALD- Community News Wednesday August Zl 1991 Hydro looking to charge developers By BEN DUMMETT The Herald Halton Hills Hydro sion may take the Town lead and charge developers for engineering services The commission at their meeting Friday directed staff to investigate if the Com mission should charge developers directl for providing them with engineering services Commission General Manager Gerry Trudell explained the ty s current policy calls for engineering staff to do electrical layouts for proposed subdivisions without charging the developers directly Comparatively the Town requires developers to hire engineering firms to do the work it requires before a sub division application can be con sidered for approval Mr said the commis sion does approximately worth of engineering work per year for developers Normally it recovers this money when the tender is awarded for the in stallation of the electrical layout The company awarded the tender pays a 20 per cent mark up for equipment bought from the com mission This mark up covers the cost of the engineering work said Mr Trudell How ever financial recovery for commission engineering work depends on the subdivision going ahead and herein lies the pro blem said Mr Trudell Over the past year the sion has done 10 subdivision elec tncal layout designs but no con has yet started on any proposal That means the com mission is not getting a return on the work it has done explained Mr Trudell He went on to say if the proper ty is sold and a new subdivision plan is put forth or no construe begins threetofive after the electrical design is com then a new set of designs must be done The most extreme example of the problem facing the commis concerns an properly on the Fifth Line north of Highway The property has been sold four times and each time the commission has drawn up a new electrical layout to con form with each ntw subdivision application said Mr Trudell Since no construction has taken place the commission has done each of the designs without com in any form and that worries the commission said Mr Tnidell The general manager said his report will go before the commis early next year at which time it will decide if its policy should be changed Turner takes up GST cheque fight By LIS POT The Herald Halton Peel P Garth Turner said he s blasting away at he Minister of Revenue on
