offenders charged Halton Regional Police have charged three young offenders from Acton with mischief and assault in connection with an inci dent at Pamper Me Pet Foods in Acton which occurred Aug 9 Police say three suspects entered the store refused to leave and sprayed a fire extinguisher in the store before leaving and alleged ly assaulted an emplojee Two 15yearold boys were charged with mischief while a third year old was charged with mischief and assault All three are to appear in Milton Court Sept Damage to school Police say an unknown suspect illegally entered Centennial Mid die School on Bouleard in Georgetown August and ed damage but stole no pro The suspect opened an in secure window to gain to the school and climbed into a school classroom where two glass jars and a window were broken Police are continuing their in vestigation Gas theft Police say an unknown thief stole a Canada gas card out of the mail that was being sent to a Nona I woman and used it to buy over worth of gas The Norval woman called Petro Canada when she recede her card in the mail and when the company investigated they discovered the card had been us ed for several gas acquisitions in the Toronto area The card has been cancelled Police chase While patrolling on 10th Line and a police officer attempted to stop a vehicle at the intersection by actn the roof lights Police say the vehicle accelerated and failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection and continued driving A pursuit en sued into Peel Region until both cars reached Airport Road when the police officer ended the pur suit Police say there were two occupants in the 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and a partial plate number which thty art looking into Vehicle pelted A Georgetown woman reported to police that while driving through Hungry Hollow on Line in Georgetown on August 17 her car was pelted with stones and dirt from unknown culprits on both sides of the road causing damage to the drivers side door of her car She had no description of the suspects but police are considering issuing more patrols for the area Mailbox destroyed A Georgetown man has re quested police patrol the 5th Sideroad east of Trafalgar Road more often to enforce the kmhour speed limit after his mailbox was destroyed by a speeding car which lost control on a curve in the road Police say an unknown vehicle was east bound on 5 Sideroad when it lost control on the wet pavement and went off the north side of the road striking a culvert and destroying a mailbox There was no evidence of the type of vehicle at the scene Theft charge Police have charged a year old Georgetown woman and a 24 Georgetown man with theft under after they were witnessed a Georgetown employee leaving the store without paying for worth of various clothes and com pact discs Police say the woman hid the items in her purse while the man stuck more than one compact disc down the front of his pants Both suspects will ap pear in Milton court Sept House attacked Police say a Marilyn Crescent house was attacked by unknown culprits who threw rocks at the window panes at the front of the home breaking six and causing damage Two youths were seen running from the area the homeowner told police who are continuing their im estigation Youths charged Police have charged a young offender and a Georgetown young offender with theft under SI in connection with a break and enter at Canadian Tire in Georgetown where two bikes were stolen Aug 23 Police say an employee at the store saw the culprits flee the scene after they cut a security cable from the new bikes and drove off Police follow ed this lead and visited a Georgetown home where an of found one of the stolen bikes lying the backyard and another bike which had been stripped with numerous pieces of it lying in a pile in the yard The 17 year old Norval youth and the 16year old Georgetown boy will appear in Milton court Sept 20 Pole toppled Police say an Acton man broke a hydro pole on 10 Sideroad west of Trafalgar Road in half August when he veered into the pole with his Dodge pickup Police say the man was west bound on 10 Sideroad when he left the roadway and hit the pole There were no signs of braking The man suffered minimal in juries and was charged with two highway traffic act offences His pickup was severely damaged Lost control Police say an Acton woman severely damaged her Ford pickup when she drove into a driveway hit the gas lost con trol drove across the grass over a tree and through a neighbor s hedge The woman wasn in and police are laying no charges Vandalism is main concern of crime prevention officer North Halton s new crime prevention officer Acting Sergeant Marty Power of Georgetown said he concerned about vandalism Our statistics show that van dahsm is high he said When school starts we 11 educate the students about vandalism and hopefully this will help reduce it Acting Sgt Power just started this new position Aug and is still getting organized and plann mg what areas need to be ad dressed but he already made communitybased policing a priority biggest goal is to get in with the community con saltation committee and get the public involved with policing he said He also eager to educate the public on what they can do to pro tect themselves from vandalism break and enters and other activities Being the Crime Prevention Sergeant is a new job for Acting Sgt Power Sgt Power whos been with the Regional Police service since 1980 He started as a cadet in training and began uniform patrol in Burlington After four years of patrol he was assigned to the pro active plain clothes squad lo target cer tain aspects of crime such as break and enters and drinking in the parks After a a half of this he worked in the Burlington criminal investigations bureau as a detective constable before com back to Georgetown as a uniform patrol officer in 1989 The Crime Prevention Sergeant position became open when Sergeant Dave was transferred to the position of Acting Staff Sergeant of a Georgetown platoon Since Const Powers name was on the promotion list he was transferred to the Acting Sergeant position in the crime prevention bureau for at least six months The 30yearold Power has liv in Georgetown all his life is married and the father of one child Police warn residents of bogus meter reader Halton Regional Police in vestigators are warning Georgetown residents that an unidentified man claiming to be a Union Gas meter reader is a fake and could be scoping houses for potential break ins Detective Sergeant Michael Eacrett wants to alert all citizens to be wary of a white male claim ing to be an employee for Union Gas who has approached two Georgetown homes one on Crescent and the other on Rexway Boulevard The Cres home owner always phones the meter reading in to the com pany Almost two weeks later a man described as white with brown hair and wearing a blue shirt and blue baseball cap approach ed the Drive homeowner stated his name was Bill Bowen and asked to look at the gas meter The homeowner stated the man walked around the home entered the shed checked the meter and left Both homeowners called police who in tum called Union Gas in Georgetown and learned they have no employee named Bill Union Gas also stated that all Union Gas employees carry iden tification cards and its company policy that workers telephone homeowners prior to attending their residence Sgt is requesting that anyone whos had a similar occurrence or knows anything that may identify the suspect should call Crime Stoppers at or himself at
