Open Heavy Horses return Sept All the excitement of the thirty two pounding hooves return this year to Georgetown Fair s Heavy Horse show with its feature of the eight horse hitch The show starts this year at a on Sunday Sep tember 8th and the man making the final confirmation and hitch decisions will be Judge Cameron ShantsofPlattesville Ontario Also included in the affixed classes is a Showmanship class and best Junior Driver of a team of draft horses for Juniors 18 years and un Interested spectators will ap preciate the finesse as well as the work that involves showing a heavy horse from the intertwining of hair ana colored ribbon that is known as the rolling of the mane to the trot ting of a horse that could weigh up to a ton or more down the track The showing of a draft horse is an art that involves acquired skills and determination the same as your favourite sport does And a sport it is there are winners and losers yet like most competitions there will also be more days down the road for another try However for many Georgetwon all Fair is the start of the fall show season So come to the show and follow the classes choose your favourites and play the Judge The breeds vying for competition are the Belgians varying from light to dark beige the Percheron grey to black the commercial a cross between a heavy horse and a trotter and the Clydesdale bay to roan usually with fair white feathery feet The Heavy Horse show committe headed by Don Brander is expecting another large and successful turnout this year as in the past Inquiries for those who would like to show can be directed to Don at 1505 For those who would like to witness the beauty of the single draft horse or the majesty of the light horse hitch the approximate time of showing is 1 p m on Sunday Come join us the Fair will be pleased to be your host fair passes GEORGETOWN FARM OLYMPICS Warm up your muscles for the 1991 Georgetown Farm Olympics This is a brief explanation of the events in this fun filled and NOT TOO SERIOUS COMPETITION First six teams to register will compete The team will consist of mode of transportation of your choice at discretion of the judges maximum of members from your org nidation The teams 1 members will carry buckets full of water about 30 feet and pass them onto your mode of transportation at end of competition you will also be judged on the amount of water remaining the buckets At the next station members will be blindfolded and guided by a fifth team member and thej will a four bale it must stand for seconds and are to be left standing 3 Next 1 member is to tie a bag of gram and then load it on to the mode of transportation It must remain tied for the duration of the event At the next station the corn is to be tied into a sheath so that it stands for 7 seconds 5 The following station is nail driving each member is to drive a inch spike into a log it must go all the way in before the next person can begin If you bend a nail you can start another When all members have completed you will pick up everything and move to the next station 6 Log sawing Fun with cross cut saws some sharp some not so sharp one person will not cut Each pair will cut cookies from the log while the others steady the log Load up the cookies and i upon completion all members will manipulate their team and mode of transportation through a short obstacle course and return to the stooked bales where the team will 81 take the plank and two bales and make a walkway and two members of the team will cam two pails of water over Each member earning the pails of water will set them down and toss two Cow Chips each into a hoop amount of cow chip in hoop is judged 10 Each team will proceed to a pen and pick out one goat for milking and take it to the milking area minute time limit O ice complete goat is to be returned to pen The entire event will be judged by a stopwatch Each team will be accompanied by an official judge who will determine the completion of each event There will be 10 se cond time penalties for leaving before a station is fully com pleted The Sheath of Corn and bale stook will be judged on a scale of 30 for neatness The equivalent number of seconds will be deducted from your total time The bag of grain must led grain is spilled the team w ill receive a 30 second The total inches of water remaining the buckets will be
