the province celebrate in unison their various achievements and contributions to their respective communities It is a time to remind the general public of the important place The Royal Canadian Legion and its Auxiliaries have in our society Just imagine your particular area without the Legion There would probably be no sponsor for cadet scout guides and other youth groups there would be less assistance with pensions hospital beds and senior housing for veterans there would be less financial assistance in ing hospital equipment and less educational assistance programs for those studying geriatric care etc Countless other important causes and programs would be sadly diminished if Legion and donations were not available The Legion is a necessary com in todays society Make its many facets known Legion Week is the ideal opportunity If you can still march take part a parade If you cannot march line the sidewalks along the parade route gather at the cenotaphs Support your Legion officers and wear your Legion uniforms pins and your medals with pnde Have a good week Yours in comradeship Ross A Paterson President Ontario Gommand FROM THE PREMIER The occasion of Legion Week gives us opportunity to reflect on the many good works of the Royal Canadian Legion The Royal Canadian Legion performs an important role in our society providing veterans with a source of support and fellowship while reminding us all of the inhumanity of war You can take tremendous pride in the contribution you have made to this tradition of service and to the lives of Canadas veterans In recent years the Royal dian Legion has dramatically ex panded its scope of public ser vice We now see the Legion tively involved in many com munity services and charitable causes From youth education programs to providing welfare services to exservice personnel the Royal Canadian Legion is an organization that reflects com passion and pride in our com munities I am pleased to extend- warm
