only throughout Ontario but across Canada Wantonmindless destruction of both public and private property ispure and simple- a financial burden neither the community nor individuals should haye to bear In a similar veinthose individuals charged and convicted of vandalism should be punished to the limit the law provides A tip of the hat to two communityminded residents who turned in to police three young offenders who trashed a laundromat in a destructive spree Hills has a program in place to reward residents who report individuals witnessed engaging in acts of van dalism to police and it really is a pity more residents dont get involved to correct this blight on our community Similarly Halton police operate the Crimestoppers program in Hills which rewards people who report witnessing crimes if a conviction is registered against the accused Caring for the wellbeing of your community is what is in volved here and by turning in an obviously uncaring resident or nonresident for that in the act of committing a crime the community as a whole ultimatelyibenefits It also sends the message out to other lowlifes who might be contemplating committing a crime that the eyes of the community are its nice to see the community support the hard work and effort of our volunteer Agricultural Society in such poor economic times As a local businessman I know how tough it is this year Noxious fumes To The Editor Saturday September I had occasion to visit friends who live in the Park area of Georgetown Upon arrival at their home in the late afternoon 1 could not help hut notice a highly noxious odor in combination with a thick greyishblack haze in the air The haze and the odor permeated several blocks I wondered it there was a fire or chemical spill or some kind of en vironmental accident Research into the source of this problem led me to discover that this disturbance Id the fresh fall air was coming from the Park itself To my great amazement I learned that a Burning Rubber Contest was being held as an event at the Fall Fair This involved cars being mounted on blocks to keep them stationary while their owners us ed exacting skill to press the ac celerators so that the tires would spin fast enough to leave rubber behind Friends who attended the Fair told me that the stands were filled with gleeful and cheering fans With the worldwide concern in recent times which is constantly highlighted by the media govern ments and citizens groups I can not believe that Georgetown residents would choose such a mindless inconsiderate and potentially harmful form of entertainment Can we not treat our Town and our neighbors bet ter than this A Mair Georgetown If not for the support of if I may name a few members of the Georgetown Fair Bill for a great lineup of
