has just been delivered to them by the Provincial Govern ment I refer to the change in OHIP that travellers will face and what Mr reported in the press last week He advised that OHIP will only cover part of your costs if you are taken ill out side Canada and he advised travellers to buy insurance Mr I wrote you earlier in the year that purchas ing insurance was not the answer for many people because pre existing medical conditions are not covered in many of these in surance policies How many seniors do you know that do not have a preexisting medical con dition There are a heck of a lot of young people that have pro blems also You failed to reply or do anything about my concerns Worse you have juit last week advised people to buy insurance as if that took care of everything and you know that is not so I agree that should not cover the inflated cost for hospitalization for Canadians out side Canada but I object to peo ple being cancelled out of coverage and the government of the people pro viding them with no alternative Imagine if you may that the car insurance industry unilaterally decided that our car insurance did not cover us as of Jan in the USA and we would have to buy another policy for travelling in the USA Then when some went to purchase the extra policy they discovered that for some reason peculiar to them it would not pay out if they had an accident in the USA The end result would be for that group they would not be able to drive in the USA What a hue and cry you would hear from the socialists in Ontario about those capitalist bad boys Well for all Ontario citizens with preexisting Medical conditions the has done just that Your advice to buy insurance when travelling outside Canada is shallow and misleading and many people can be hurl very badly because the NDP has come out with another half baked plan How much of this hundred million being spent in the USA was for drug and alcohol abusers being shipped to the for treatment Are seniors who spent their whole life con tributing to OHI P the victims of this recent and very liberal policy of treating abusers in the USA and are they the ones who are going to lose benefits because of this To all seniors with existing medical conditions I think the NDP has just condemned all or you to internment in Ontario for the rest of your natural life unless The perfect candidate Dear Editor My Perfect Candidate In his article in the September Herald Mr Testa eloquently makes the case against the record of the current Council and bemoans the lack of any can didate with a bold contrary plat form Bearing in mind the Town agenda of the last several years perhaps a more Green agenda is appropriate for the next few years I would vote for the can didate with the following plat forms Enhanced programs for the needy in our community no more development permits for new subdivisions which cause the eviction of people already living in existing affordable housing units 2 Positive target to reduce Town taxes by 3 per cent per year for the next three years no new debt 3 Positive location for all large trucks onto alreadydesignated major arterial routes Highway Winston Churchill and Trafalgar not Mountainview Sinclair etc 4 Positive target of 3 years of no growth in the number of dwell- ings in Georgetown 5 No major road widening or regrading no removals of large healthy trees for development projects no new roads 6 No new sewage pipes no growth in water treatment capacity Sale of new civic center to private industry relocation of council back to original facilities 8 No new commercial building at the expense of existing car parking spaces Positive steps to protect natural wildlife and species in out wetlands forest and floodplain areas And even if my elected can for his Council attendance Over the last three and onehalf years I have attended almost all Town Council meetings several Niagara Escarpment Committee meetings and a number of Regional Council meetings I have been continually impressed with Joe Hewitts exceptional knowledge of the applicable Of ficial Plans and the processes in volved in their implementation His comments at these meetings have indicated that he has researched the material under discussion He makes informed decisions based on the facts not on noise and numbers Even if he has missed an average of three evening meets a
