the HERALD Wednesday September 1991 Community News Handicapped transit system is still rolling along an 11 pa- cent decrease Id the number of passenger trips taken on Regions intra regional transit system for the during the first seven months of 1991 over the same period last year the service t losing popularity according to a Regional staff report The reports author Bonnie Halton Social Services Commissioner explains the per centage decrease translates into a drop in passenger trips from 1 during the first seven months of last year to 359 during the same period in 1991 While an percent decrease in the actual number of passenger trips may appear to be a significant figure the percentage is skewed by the relatively small numbers under examination wrote Ms Ewart in the report Ms predicts the the ber of passenger trips taken on the transit system commonly known as Pegasus at the end of this year will equal the total level for all of last year The commisssioner bases her prediction on the assumption that available spaces for day programs for the handicapped will fill up now that summer has ended People will need to access the Pegasus service to travel to and from the day programs As well Ms department will be distributing promotional literature advertising the Pegusus service to long term care facilities Health Department advisory Halton Regional Health Department wants to remind parents that when the children go back to school they may be ing some extra passengers with them Head lice love the long summer vacation They too have spent long hours playing but with no supervision They travel from one head to another as long as the two heads are touching Head lice cannot jump fly or walk well on a flat surface they swing from hair to hair There is no scientific evidence that they are spread from hats brushes combs bedding or carpets They are hard to find as they move quickly through the hair but you will be able to see the shells of hatched eggs which re- mam on the hair These tiny empty shells are white and cling tightly to the hair shaft They are a sign that head lice have been busy If you seem them close to the scalp you know you have found a new infestation Treat is simple Special shampoos and cream rinses are available at your drug store Ask your doctor or pharmacist if in doubt Head lice should be seen as a nuisance not a disease They prefer clean hair to dirty hair and anyone adult or child can get them It really helps if you let the school know if you find head lice If you treat the child and send himher back to school without telling anyone the child can get them again You should also tell any other friends or neighbours who may have been close It a good idea to keep checking your fami ly s hair once a week as a routine and to encourage your children brush their hair vigorous each night If we all work together we can really cut down on head lice after all they don need an education Further information on head lice will be available at your school In addition you can ion tact Regional Health Department at 507 and seniors apartments In the report Ms points out the number of new registrations to use the service has increased per cent during the first seven mon of this year compared to the same period last year The decrease in service usage in therefore cannot be attributed to lower registration numbers concludes Ms However it does appear that more new registrants in 1991 wish to access the service for occasional use compared to 1990 when more tended to register and use the vice for ongoing or time- limited regular day program trips HALTON HILLS COLLISION R 1 ACTON ONT s CORNEAS l GiC RATE 10 Subject To Clung Without Node MONEY CONCEPTS 8731877 GEORGETOWN DISTRICT MEMORIAL HOSPITAL NOTICE OF
