Wednesday October 2 1991 the HERALD School Slews Harmony stressed By TESTA Herald Special If you have been listening to the news in the past few weeks you may have noticed the escalation of crime rates It seems that every day someone is the victim of a violent act From rape to murder to disputes the list seems to be lengthening every day To what can we at tribute the current problems we are having Everybody knows what it like to struggle with emotions and everybody knows that it can be very difficult for us to cope with these emotions Almost every kid on the block has been subjected to some kind of harassment from another schoolmate These are facts of life and we learn to cope with them and eventually they pass Right On Sept 25 Georgetown High School students attended a special assembly by members of our staff and a group of people from Calgary Alberta The assembly entitled Har mony focused on the everyday struggle that people have with their emotions and how we can resolve our problems in a peaceful and rational manner The Motivational Media Assembly had a 40 minute presentation dealing with today society and the individuals in it The focus was on how young peo ple today should deal with their emotional problems We have all felt jealous envious and at times it is difficult to resolve our con flicts Violence and verbal assault are not the answers We find ourselves growing up in a very rich society and un fortunately in a materialistic society Sometimes individuals forget about their values and their feelings towards others in order to increase this material wealth Instead of turning our backs on our problems we should all con front them willingly in order to resolve them Talk to the people in a rational It is very easy to become angry When we are unhappy we tend to take our frustrations out on others The problem is that we are not really solving anything we are only making matters worse by someone else into the web we have spun The presentation featured a movie on how teenagers could handle problems in a violent way There was a slide presenta tion which was choreographed to music and this too focused on the The feelings were mixed and I received many interesting com ments Some students thoroughly enjoyed the program and said they understood the message behind it They also agreed with the idea of a violent way of resolving problems Another point a student brought up was the actual freshness if you will of the assembly He was very impress ed that it was actually current Round 30 Halfway through a run a around Centennial
