behind another vehicle with his foot on the brake After he stop ped a Chevrolet coupe driven by an Acton man applied the brakes too late to avoid his vehicle and slid on the wet road surface into the their investigation of a twocar collision at Winston chill Boulevard Oct 10 where a Nor val womans 1984 Ford sedan was severely damaged Police say the accident occurred after a GMC pick up driven by the first time in his years of service with the Regional Police Service Staff Inspector Richard Dawson has been tran sferred to North and he says he can wait to get involved in the community Staff Insp Dawson is Division Georgetown Acton and Milton new District Commander replacing Staff Inspector Richard Kivell who held the post or just over a year and a half The two actually traded places with Staff Kivell taking over Staff Insp Dawson s former job as Director of Staff Services where he 11 be involved in police ad ministration finance human resources recruiting and training Staff Insp Dawson took over command Oct and said coming here is like going back to when I fir st started policing in Burlington because it s like going back to old time policing I was out walking the other day and the people here wave and talk to you he said Likewise he can t wait to get out and talk to the community One of his first plans is to go out walking the beat with the village constables to get to know local business owners and residents He also has plans to join one of the local charitable organizations probably the Rotary Club which he is presently a member of in Burlington Staff Dawson has quite a record of community involvement Besides the Rotary club he is president of the Burlington Minor Hockey Association president of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treat ment Program ADAPT and president of the Senior Officers Association which requires him to negotiate contracts with the Police Services Board My past record of community involvement will be a plus in this job he said I have atEC Dairy A third man has been charged by Halton Regional Police in their con tinuing investigation into allegations of sexual and physical abuse at C Drury School for the deaf in Milton Ronald Hackett 54 of stein north of Guelph was charged with indecent assault and appeared m court Oct 15 for a bail hearing His next court appearance was set for Oct 28 Police say the man was arrested after a former student at Drury told police between Jan to Dec a teacher repeatedly touched her genitals on numerous occasion The alleged incidents did not take place the school but curred in the teachers car and home Mr Hackett was a teacher and guidance counsellor at the school from He was released at his bail on a assurance fee and told he permitted to have contact with the victim and was to keep the peace and be of good behavior Mr is the third person to be charged in this investigation Also charged is Harvey Bradley of Milton with two counts of rape and one count each of sexual in tercourse with a female under indecent assault assault and being in possession of a weapon for a pur pose dangerous to public peace The other person arrested is Gerald Hall of London who was charged with 12 prepare him for his next promotion to Inspector and transfer to Support Services where he was head of record communication and computer services He spent a year doing that before being transferred to
