22 23 Outstanding week for GDHS boys volleyball Junior and Senior Rebs advance to finals By STEVEN Herald Sports Editor junior and senior volleyball teams spiked volleyed and blocked their way to the Regional Finals last Thursday While moments of frustration and anxiety filled by teams contests last week the teams combination of talent and heart was enough to outshine their opponents and ad vance to the finals The junior squad made it to the semifinals with an easy victory over Milton District in the quarter finals last Tuesday The juniors won this match with and victories This was basically a tuned up for the semifinals said coach We had beaten up on them earlier in the season and did so again in the playoffs The junior Rebels had much stif- fer competition two days later against the Nelson Knights The first game saw Nelson jump ahead to a 102 lead in a very short time span Seconds later Nelson added three more points and it looked as though Georgetown would soon trail by one game The Rebels however stopped the Knights cold at this point and scored unanswered points A saw match insued moments later when Nelson added a point to their total and both team fought like cats and dogs for the win with Georgetown eventually coming out on top The second game was much closer in score with neither team able to on more than two points at a time Nelson however were able to hit a hot streak collected five straight points and the win 10- 5 With the score tied at one game a piece it appeared as though the deciding game would be even more exciting than the previous two This was not the case The junior Rebels allowed Nelson only the second point of the game and blew the Knights away to adavnce to the finals The senior squad went from default to victory to adavnce to the semis last Tuesday With a match against Georgetown lost the first game by default because of a lack of squad members ready for competition The second game belonged to the Rebels who allowed their only four points before ex- with vicious spiking and strong blocking for a 154 win Drury looked like con tenders in the final game with a much improved defence but fell short as the Rebels walked away with a 1512 win and the right to ad vance to the semifinals In the semifinals the senior squad had an even harder time against a strong team The Rebels fought their way to a 1510 win in the first game but lost a heartbreaking second game With everything on the line the Rebels came out on top with a 157 victory with solid blocking and good passing We played the best volleyball of the season this week
