Page 20- Sports Wednesday November 13 1991 Junior C Sabres continue to suffer home ice blues The Acton Sabres managed only one point in three games last week and walked away with two more home ice defeats Actons only point of the week came from a well fought tie with old rivals Schomberg Cougars Thur sday evening The teams losses came against Brussels Friday and Orangeville Sunday Thursday evenings contest saw the Sabres ahead In the last ten minutes of action when the Cougars scored twice and forced overtime action Both netminders were sharp and didnt allow a tiebreaker However this was a disappointing finish for Acton a game they should have walked away with Friday night competition began with Brussels hitting the scoreboard first at on a power play goal Five minutes later Jay Jasper and Steve Henderson com bined for the first Sabre goal of the game The pair scored again at but a shorthanded dinger at from forward Sam ski end the period at a 22 tie In tlie second period Aeton was able to score first when Henderson netted his second of the game off a pass from Jasper Jasper and Hen derson combined for yet another goal with help from newcomer Dave Osborne However Mike and two by Jim English Again with under minutes remaining on the clock was able to tie the score at and a minute and a half later netted the game winner The Sabres will have a break from their home ice blues Friday when they take on AHiston at 8 pm Hurricane Hockey Midgets continue hot streak with win tie over weekend The Hurricanes scored a win and a tie in their home and home series this week with In Chinguacousy on the strength of a third period tally by Ken skated to a 32 win The Hurricanes took a 20 lead into the third period on goals by Mitch Robinson and Jim before Ching rallied to tie the game setting the stage for Kosziwkas winner with less than four minutes left in the game Mark contributed a pair of assists and Kevin Gale had a strong performance in goal for the Hurricanes Sunday night in Milton the Hurricanes fought for a tie with as both teams scored in the first period capitalized early on a miscue in the zone to take a lO lead Ken Kosziwka evened the two goals lead to lose to last place Oakville on November and then rebound ed to knock off tough Chinguacousy in their next game Despite four separate goals by Steve Roy Todd Miller Tom Baynton and Justin Davis Halton was unable to fend off a fired up Oakville squad This hopefully was the low point in the season as they again came out hitting and shooting as they on November Chinguacousy got their usual first goal before Miller tied it up five minutes later on a great ef fort on relays from Jamie Walker and Matt Vervoorn Roy popped in a rebound from Doug jevich and Baynton to put up 21 Jeff was a tower of strength In goal As they approach mid season coaches Fred Sharer and John Millany continue to experiment by bringing up alternate players from Erin and Milton to strengthen the team Two game split for Sunny Acres Midgets last weekend The Georgetown Sunny Acre Midgets gained a split in league action last week In Burlington Georgetown played a solid game and scored full marks with a win The visitors opened up a tour goal lead midway through the se cond period with two goals by Greg Dobbin and one each by Tim and Paul Dobbin and Mark assisted on goal and Mike large and Jeff helped out on Kalbarskis marker Greg Dawson and Presswood assisted on Dobbins two tallies The teams exchanged two goals each during the remainder of the game with ad ding his second goal of the game from Dobbin and Ryan Mike Large rounded out the Sunny Acre scoring on an assist from Chris Barrow A four point night by Dobbin and a three point effort for led Georgetowns of fense Solid work by all and a strong goalten- ding performance by Josh Barber kept Georgetown in control It was a different story though as the Sunny Acre squad took on the Brampton Maroon Midgets on Monday and came away on the short end of a score The exchanged goals midway through the game with Georgetowns goal coming from a Mark David from the point Greg Dawson and Greg Dobbin added assists on Davids marker Although Georgetown the visitors 4416 and controlled a lot of the play Brampton took ad vantage of all their chances scor ing three unanswered goals to secure the victory Young competitors These young rivals from M and Art Pro Sports and subway Sub fight for posesslon of the puck during the Novice contest Saturday morning at Georgetown Memorial Arena Subway skaters came away with a 4- 1 win Herald Photo Blue Finns shine at first meet The Hills Blue Fins at tended their first meet of the season November 2nd and 3rd Ten swimmers attended the St Thomas Jumbo Jets Invitational over the weekend Out of races they achieved twenty per sonal best times Congratulations to Daniel Hardstaff Matthew and Sara Robertson who achiev ed personal best times in all their swims The relay teams were fill ed in by underage swimmers Erin Shillington LaurieAnne Crocker Lent and Amy Willis They helped the older swimmers place in ail of the finals Special mention goes to Alison who placed third twice 25th Annual Midget tourney Plans are well underway for the Georgetown Minor Hockey Associations 25th Anniversary Midget Tournamnt being held at the Gordon Alcott Arena December and January 2nd through to the upcoming tournament will feature AA teams and AAA teams With applications already received from Michigan and Ottawa a strong field is ex pected for this years tourna ment Anniversary ceremonies will take place prior to the official opening game featuring the Georgetown Sunny Acres Midget team and an opponent yet to be selected The Midget tournament sanc tioned by the OMHA will con sist of AA and 2 AAA divisions The Semi Finals and Champion ship games will be played on Sun day January 5th Watch for up dates on the tournament that will be published in this paper on a regular basis fourth and fifth in her events Sabrina placed second in three events and third in her other two races The Blue Fins swim meet will be November 17 at the Georgetown Indoor Pool from am to 2 pm This would be a
